– Arsenal have the fourth best home record in the Premier League this season
– Everton have only scored six times away from home in the top flight
– Recommended bet: Arsenal to win 2-0

Arsenal have the chance to move five points clear at the Premier League summit on Wednesday evening when they welcome relegation-threatened Everton to the Emirates Stadium.

Back-to-back victories for the Gunners over Aston Villa and Leicester has seen them put a four-game winless streak across all competitions behind them and Mikel Arteta’s side will be hoping to keep the momentum going at home to Everton.

These two sides only just played each other at the start of February and it was the Toffees who secured a surprise 1-0 victory at Goodison Park that day in what was Sean Dyche’s first game in charge.

Since that victory, Everton have won one and lost two of their next three matches to leave them embroiled in a relegation battle and it is hard to see them coming away from the Emirates with a positive result.

Arsenal vs Everton (Wednesday, 7.45pm)

Team news

Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus is getting closer to a comeback from the knee injury sustained at the World Cup and remains on course to make his return around the middle of March, while midfielder Mohamed Elneny has had successful surgery on a knee issue of his own and is set to be out for an extended period of time.

With the games coming thick and fast for the Gunners, Arteta could decide to make some alterations to the side that defeated Leicester, with Thomas Partey, Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe all pushing for starts.

Everton look like they will have to do without striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin once again, as he continues to build fitness from a thigh problem, while defender Nathan Patterson’s return has been delayed slightly due to a knock picked up in training.

Winger Andros Townsend is still over a month away from returning to action due to a knee issue, while midfielder James Garner is getting closer to a return although this contest comes too soon for him.

The stats

Arsenal have the fourth best home record in the Premier League this season, taking 26 points from a possible 33 on offer, while their only defeat at the Emirates in the top flight during this impressive run came against Manchester City.

The Gunners have scored 52 league goals so far this term – only City have netted more (64) – while their goals against tally of 23 is only bettered by Newcastle (15).

Everton are without a win in their last nine away games across all competitions and they have lost their only away match since Dyche took charge, going down 2-0 to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.

The Toffees have taken just seven points from 11 league outings this season – only West Ham, Leeds and Nottingham Forest have managed fewer – while the Toffees’ record of six away goals is the second worst in the division.

Prediction

Although still not playing with the same kind of fluidity and confidence seen at the start of the campaign, Arsenal have still managed to overcome two difficult tests in their last two outings – beating Villa 4-2 and then Leicester 1-0.

Being able to pick up the maximum points on offer from those two outings will have done wonders to the Gunners’ belief that they can end their long wait for another Premier League title, and it is hard not to think they will make it three wins in a row at the expense of Everton.

The Toffees have only scored two goals from their four matches since Dyche took charge, highlighting the area of the side that needs improving, but the continued absence of Calvert-Lewin makes their task even harder.

Everton are harder to break down and they have kept two clean sheets since the former Burnley boss took the reins, shutting out Arsenal and Leeds, so expect the visitors to make life tough for Arteta’s troops.

It will be a case of being patient for Arsenal and taking the scoring opportunities when they come their way. This is unlikely to be a classic and it is one the home side should be able to come out on top in.

Jurgen Klinsmann has returned to international football as South Korea head coach.

The 58-year-old has been charged with the task of replacing Paulo Bento, whose stepped down after a 4-1 defeat to Brazil at the World Cup in Qatar last year.

Legendary former Germany striker and boss Klinsmann has been out of the game since quitting as Hertha Berlin head coach in 2020, just 10 weeks after taking charge.

Klinsmann has signed a contract until 2026, so he will be at the helm for the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico in three years’ time.

The ex-USA boss said: “I am very happy and honoured to be the head coach of Korea’s national football team.

“I am well aware that the Korean national team has been constantly improving and producing results over a long period of time.!

He added: “We will do our best to achieve successful results in the upcoming Asian Cup and 2026 World Cup.”

Klinsmann’s first game in charge will be a friendly against Colombia on March 24.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah could be on his way out of the Premier League club this summer if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

The Reds are currently nine points off fourth-placed Tottenham and look set to crash out of this season’s competition at the hands of Real Madrid.

And according to Spanish sources, the Egyptian talisman is unlikely to tolerate a season away from Europe’s top table despite his contract running until 2025.

The 30-year-old is reportedly of interest to Paris Saint-Germain, who are looking to bolster their already fearsome attack.

Salah has netted eight goals in seven Champions League outings this term, tallying a further eight strikes in the English top flight.

He remains just two goals away from equalling Robbie Fowler as the club’s top goalscorer in the Premier League era.

During his time at Anfield, the 83-cap international has contributed to Liverpool’s domestic and European success, winning the Premier League, Champions League, League Cup and FA Cup.

But the Kop hero will be keen to ensure that he is competing at the top level as he enters the final years of his career as an elite player.

Read on as we pick out the best Opta stats and facts ahead of the two mouthwatering fixtures.

Arsenal vs Everton (Wednesday, 7.45pm)

Arsenal have won 99 of their 203 league games against Everton (drawn 43 and lost 61) and could become the first team in English league history to register 100 victories against a specific side.

Everton have won just one of their last 26 away games against Arsenal in the Premier League (drawn four and lost 21), picking up a 1-0 victory in April 2021.

The Toffees have won four of their last five league games against the Gunners, including a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture last month. That is as many victories as they had in their previous 28 against the Londoners (drawn eight and lost 16).

Everton have never won a Premier League away game against the side starting the day top of the table, drawing five and losing 19 such matches.

Their last league victory away to the top-flight leaders was in September 1986, courtesy of a 2-1 win at Wimbledon.

After a run of 10 consecutive home wins in the Premier League, Arsenal have won just one of their last four at the Emirates (drawn two and lost one.

The Gunners have also kept just two clean sheets in their last 16 home league games.

Everton have won just one of their last 13 Premier League away games — a 2-1 win at Southampton in October.

Since that victory over the Saints, the Toffees have scored just one goal in their seven away games (drawn two and lost five), with Demarai Gray netting in a 1-1 draw at Manchester City in December.

Arsenal have 57 points from their 24 Premier League games this season — victory here would be the joint fastest they have ever reached 60 points in a single league campaign.

Having lost his first nine Premier League games against Arsenal, Everton boss Sean Dyche has lost just one of his last six against them (won two and drawn three).

Dyche’s sides have never scored more than once in those 15 meetings with the Gunners, netting seven goals in total.

James Tarkowski scored Everton’s winner against Arsenal in the reverse fixture. The last Toffees player to score home and away against the Gunners in the same Premier League campaign was Tomasz Radzinski in 2003-04.

Gabriel Martinelli has scored in his last two Premier League appearances for Arsenal — he has never netted in three in a row in the same season before.

Liverpool vs Wolves (Wednesday, 8pm)

Liverpool have won 18 of their last 20 home league games against Wolves, with the exceptions being 1-0 defeats in January 1984 and December 2010.

Wolves’ 3-0 win in the reverse fixture ended an 11-game losing run against Liverpool in the Premier League. They are looking to complete a league double over the Reds for the first time since 1950-51.

The Midlands outfit scored as many goals in that 3-0 success as they had in their previous 11 league games against the Reds combined.

But they have not scored more than once in any of their last 17 league visits to Anfield (five goals in total) since a 4-2 defeat in September 1972.

Liverpool have not scored in four of their last six league games, having failed to find the net in just three of their previous 65.

Klopp’s men have kept three consecutive Premier League clean sheets for the first time this season, last keeping more consecutively between February and April 2022 (five).

In their first 15 Premier League games this season, Wolves were averaging 0.5 goals per game, 1.6 goals conceded per game and 0.7 points per game. In their nine games under Julen Lopetegui, they are averaging 1.1 goals, one goal conceded and 1.6 points.

Liverpool are the only side yet to concede a goal from outside the box in the Premier League this season. Last term, the Reds conceded a league-high share 27% of their goals from distance (7/26).

Craig Dawson, on his club debut, and Ruben Neves scored for Wolves in their victory over Liverpool in the reverse fixture. The last Wolves player to score home and away league goals against the Reds in the same season was John Richards in 1972-73.

Mohamed Salah, who has scored in his last two home league games against Wolves, has bagged 126 Premier League goals for Liverpool and is just twoaway from equalling Robbie Fowler (128) in becoming the club’s highest scorer in the competition.

Since his Premier League debut on January 22, Pablo Sarabia has created more chances (seven), had more shots on target (three) and played more passes into the box (29) than any other Wolves player. He netted his first goal for the club in their 1-1 draw at Fulham last time out.

Drinking it in

Wout Weghorst admits he was overcome by emotion after Manchester United’s Carabao Cup success on Sunday evening.

The towering striker, 30, only arrived at Old Trafford in January, terminating a season-long loan with Turkish club Besiktas to instead link up with the Red Devils until the end of the campaign.

Having not pulled up trees with his parent club Burnley last term, Weghorst was a surprise addition to Erik ten Hag’s squad but played a key role in United’s second goal against Newcastle at Wembley by releasing Marcus Rashford.

After sealing a first career trophy, the Netherlands international said: I just took a moment at full-time. I can do really tough or I can do really cool but, yeah, for me this is a childhood dream.

“A childhood dream to play for this amazing club, to play a final and also be important in this final with the second goal.

“So, yeah, I took a moment there and that was the greatest moment of the evening.”

The success was all the sweeter for the former Wolfsburg star having lost in two previous cup final appearances earlier in his career.

He added: “In the Netherlands I played two cup finals, lost both of them. This was the third time for me.

“So, yeah, also for me it’s personal and it’s really nice to win a trophy.”

Klinsmann’s Korea change

Jurgen Klinsmann is back in international management after being confirmed as South Korea’s new head coach.

Klinsmann, 58, has enjoyed stints in charge of Germany and the United States previously and takes over from Paulo Bento, who stepped down from his role after the 2022 World Cup.

It is a first managerial job since leaving Hertha Berlin in 2020, the Tottenham hero will link up with a modern-day Spurs star in the form of Heung-Min Son.

South Korea reached the knockout stage in Qatar three months ago before exiting to Brazil 4-1 in the competition’s last 16.

Souness’ CPR plea

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has teamed up with the British Heart Foundation to encourage football fans to learn CPR.

A recent study conducted by the BHF suggested 45% of British adults would not spot signs of a cardiac arrest — something the Scot wants to change.

The 69-year-old wants fans to check out the BHF’s new online tool, RevivR, which teaches a viewer how to perform CPR in just 15 minutes.

Souness said: “CPR is a game changer and could be the most important lesson you ever learn. With RevivR, in just 15 minutes — the length of half-time — you will have the skills to save a life.

“Every fan in every football club across the country can make a difference, so please join the BHF today and let’s unite to create a new team of lifesavers.”

Christian Eriksen famously suffered a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020, with the on-site medical team saving the Manchester United midfielder’s life.

– Juventus have won their last three Serie A matches to nil
– Torino have not won at Juventus in the league since 1995
– Recommended bet: Juventus to win to zero

A 15-point deduction for Juventus means they go into the second Turin derby of the Serie A season just one point ahead of local rivals Torino.

The actual gulf between the teams is far wider than the amended league standings suggest and Juve have been on a fine run ever since October’s 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture.

Dusan Vlahovic’s late winner away to Torino kicked off a sequence of 11 victories in 14 league matches for Massimiliano Allegri’s side, who also progressed to the Europa League last 16 thanks to last week’s 4-1 aggregate success against Nantes.

It is almost eight years since Torino celebrated a derby win over Juve and they have struggled against Italy’s big guns this season, taking just one point from six away matches against teams in the top seven.

Juventus vs Torino (Tuesday, 7.45pm)

Team news

Italy midfielder Manuel Locatelli is suspended for Juventus after picking up a fifth booking of the Serie A campaign. Paul Pogba, Fabio Miretti and Arkadiusz Milik remain sidelined although Pogba is closing in on a return after a serious knee injury that ruled him out of the World Cup.

Leandro Paredes could be a like-for-like replacement for Locatelli while another option for Allegri is to play Federico Chiesa, fitness permitting, ahead of midfielders Adrien Rabiot and Nicolo Fagioli.

Torino are depleted by injuries to Nikola Vlasic, Ronaldo Vieira, Valentino Lazaro, Pietro Pelligri and David Zima. Former Chelsea, Hull and Fulham wing-back Ola Aina is suspended.

The stats

Juventus manager Allegri has been delighted with his side’s defensive performances recently and they have conceded only one goal in their last six matches, winning five of them to nil.

Juve have kept clean sheets in all 14 of their league victories this season. Four of those wins were by a 3-0 scoreline and that was also their margin of victory in last week’s Europa League second leg away to Nantes.

Torino have not won any of their last 17 league and cup derbies against Juventus, dating back to a 2-1 home victory in April 2015.

Juve have won five of the last 10 meetings between the rivals by a 1-0 scoreline but their forwards have been more effective at home this season, scoring 25 of their 36 league goals on their own turf.

Eight of Torino’s last 10 Serie A matches have produced under 2.5 goals and they have conceded only eight times in the first half of their 23 league games this term.

Prediction

After a slow start to the season, Juventus have been grinding out victories and clean sheets at an impressive rate and another win to nil is on the cards in the Derby della Mole.

Torino’s last away league win against Juve came in 1995 and they lack the firepower to upset their in-form city rivals, who have been excellent at home this season.

Juventus World Cup winner Angel Di Maria is full of confidence after his Europa League hat-trick against Nantes and the possible return of twinkle-toed Italy forward Chiesa provides a further boost to the hosts’ morale.

Torino lost 1-0 at AC Milan in their last away fixture, where they mustered only two shots on target – the same number as they managed in October’s 1-0 home defeat to Juve – and it is hard to see them unsettling Allegri’s well-drilled defensive unit.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic compared himself to basketball star Nikola Jokic after returning from a nine-month injury lay-off in Milan’s victory over Atalanta.

The evergreen striker came on in the second half of Sunday’s 2-0 win at San Siro, having previously been an unused substitute in three matches this month.

He made history by overtaking Alessandro Costacurta (41y and 25d) as Milan’s oldest Serie A player in the three-points-per-win era (since 1993-94) at 41 years and 146 days.

While the Sweden international may turn 42 later this year, he still feels he has a big part to play, just like two-time NBA MVP Jokic for the Denver Nuggets.

“I want to help the team in every way by doing what I have to do to be there on the field,” he told Sky Sport. “I want to be there when the coach and the team need me.

“It’s obvious things change between the age of 30 and 41, but I feel like Jokic in the NBA.”

Ibrahimovic’s previous appearance for Milan came in a 3-0 win over Sassuolo on May 25 last year, with the former Barcelona striker injuring his knee and undergoing surgery.

Given his age at the time of the operation and the length of the lay-off, many expected Ibrahimovic to call time on his legendary career.

“I’ve lived this year with great suffering,” he said when asked what it means to be back playing again at the highest level. “I’ve been out for a year.

“I didn’t feel well and I couldn’t do what I wanted to do. I went on with suffering to help the team but in reality I wasn’t well.

“Today I can say that I’m fine and that I can give what I can to the team. Then obviously the more you play, the more you train and the more you improve.”

Juan Musso’s own goal – after Theo Hernandez’s volley hit the post and went in off the goalkeeper’s back – and Junior Messias’ late strike earned Milan a fourth win in a row.

That includes three Serie A wins on the spin without conceding for the first time in a year, helping to lift the Rossoneri level on points with second-place rivals Inter.

It has been a largely disappointing campaign on the whole for Milan as they are 18 points adrift of leaders Napoli, something Ibrahimovic suggested may be down to his absence.

“I’ve done everything I can to recover, but in the last few weeks I’ve seen the team do well,” he said. “We must continue doing more if we are to do well.

“I feel important and have a great responsibility here. I started an adventure with this team and helped to bring it where we are today.

“When I’m not available I suffer, and perhaps the teams lacks a bit of my pressure as well as a result.”

Stefano Pioli hailed the return of “leaders” Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Mike Maignan after both players made their comeback in Milan’s 2-0 win over Atalanta on Sunday.

Ibrahimovic was brought on in the second half for his first appearance since May 2022 when undergoing surgery on his knee that many thought would end his career.

Goalkeeper Maignan was back between the sticks for the first time since sustaining an injury of his own in September, meanwhile, and marked his return with a clean sheet.

The pair coming back into the fold coincides with Milan’s best run of form this season, having now won four games in a row in all competitions, and Pioli is delighted to be back to full strength.

“Mike and Zlatan are not only two excellent players, but also two leaders of the team,” Pioli, who was taking charge of his 800th career game as a coach, told DAZN.

“Having them on the pitch helps us a lot. Now we must think about the next match. We will have players absent for that game but will still put in a good performance.”

At 41 years and 146 days, Ibrahimovic overtook Alessandro Costacurta (41y, 25d) as Milan’s oldest player in Serie A in the three-points-per-win era (1993-94 season).

The veteran striker only had 14 touches of the ball in his 16 minutes in action and did not manage a shot, but Milan’s second goal arrived with him on the field.

Junior Messias clipped the ball over Juan Musso, who had earlier scored an unfortunate own goal when Theo Hernandez’s 25-yard volley hit the post and went in off his body.

It was a brilliant strike from Hernandez after Olivier Giroud had nodded the ball into his path, and the wing-back believes he should be credited with the goal himself.

“I consider it my goal,” he said. “I’m going to count it as mine. Thanks also to Oli for knocking it down for me. It was a good goal.

“It’s true that we went through a difficult time, but with this victory we are getting back to being the Milan we were before.”

Milan have now won four games without conceding in all competitions for the first time since February 2018, with their latest victory moving them level with second-place Inter.

The Rossoneri wasted a number of good chances with the game at 1-0, but Atalanta failed to offer any sort of attacking threat.

Indeed, they had only three attempts all match – their lowest tally since April 2013 – and did not test the returning Maignan on a single occasion.

“We gave our all and tried everything, but Milan were superior on the night and we must learn from these games to focus on the next one,” Gian Piero Gasperini said.

“What we saw tonight was that despite our best efforts, it is evident Milan simply had more than we did.”

The only blemish for Milan is that Rafael Leao – who set up Messias’ goal – and Rade Krunic will miss next week’s trip to Fiorentina after being booked for the fifth time this term.

Christophe Galtier hailed Kylian Mbappe for his “magnificent” feat of becoming Paris Saint-Germain’s joint-record goalscorer in Sunday’s dominant 3-0 win at Marseille.

Mbappe scored a terrific volley to match Edinson Cavani’s tally of 200 goals for PSG as the Ligue 1 leaders went eight points clear of their old rivals with a crushing win at the Stade Velodrome.

Mbappe and fellow attacking star Lionel Messi had earlier put PSG in command by exchanging assists before the break, and they have now combined for 10 goals in Ligue 1 this term – more than any other duo.

Speaking to Amazon Prime Video after the win, Galtier said: “Mbappe is a player who has a sense of movement, who obviously goes very fast, he is technically fast too.

“He not only has the legs but an exceptional speed of execution. These are players of stats and records, he equalled this magnificent record of Cavani, and it is obvious that he will beat it.

“His presence is important to the team, it gives us other options in the game, especially with our depth and his presence in front of goal.”

PSG’s win was marred, however, by a serious injury suffered by defender Presnel Kimpembe – who went down under no contact 15 minutes in and was promptly carried from the field in tears.

“Kimpembe has unfortunately suffered a serious injury and will be out until the end of the season,” Galtier confirmed. “He has very bad pain in his Achilles tendon, we think it’s serious.”

Galtier was facing severe pressure ahead of Sunday’s fixture, with PSG seemingly facing a fight to retain their domestic title and needing to overturn a 1-0 deficit in their Champions League last-16 tie against Bayern Munich.

The sight of football advisor Luis Campos taking his place in the PSG dugout to bellow instructions during last week’s dramatic 4-3 win over Lille suggested all was not well at the Parc des Princes, but Galtier insists he enjoys a strong relationship with the club’s hierarchy.

“I have a direct relationship with my sports management, with Luis Campos and my president, who have always been present to support me because it is obviously a difficult period,” he said.

“The victory at the end of the match against Lille was important, it denoted a state of mind, the desire of the players to go after this victory until the end. Tonight, this team soothed the heart.”

Milan defeated Atalanta 2-0 at San Siro to move level on points with second-place Inter in a match that saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic make his first appearance in nine months.

Inter’s surprise 1-0 loss to Bologna earlier on Sunday opened the door for Milan to pounce and they took full advantage on home soil with a fourth win in a row in all competitions.

Juan Musso’s 25th-minute own goal – after Theo Hernandez’s long-range volley hit the frame of goal and went in off the goalkeeper’s back – put Stefano Pioli’s side on their way.

The hosts, who also had fit-again keeper Mike Maignan back in their side for the first time since September, added a deserved second through Junior Messias late on following the long-awaited return of Ibrahimovic.

There was a slice of fortune involved in Milan’s opener as Hernandez’s sublime strike from 25 yards was helped over the line by Musso after the ball had hit the post.

Rafael Leao clipped the side-netting, fired over from a glorious position and was then denied by a fine Musso save as Milan struggled to make their superiority truly show.

Messias was the next Milan player to fire off target with plenty of the goal to aim for, with that proving to be the moment Pioli turned to Ibrahimovic.

The home side finally killed off the contest through Messias’ clipped finish over Musso four minutes from time after being played through on goal by Leao.

What does it mean? Milan maintain momentum

Milan have little hope of retaining the Scudetto, with Napoli a whopping 18 points clear, but they have returned to form and are now level with fierce rivals Inter.

On the day Pioli took charge of his 800th career match as a coach, this marks the first time this season the Rossoneri have won four in a row in all competitions.

Atalanta have lost four of their past five league games, meanwhile, and are three points outside the Champions League spots having played a game more than fourth-place Roma.

Welcome back, Zlat

Having been an unused substitute in three matches this month, Pioli decided the time was right for Ibrahimovic to play his first competitive minutes since undergoing knee surgery in May 2022.

At 41 years and 146 days, Ibrahimovic is now the oldest player to represent Milan in Serie A in the three-points-per-win era (1993-94 season), overtaking Alessandro Costacurta (41 years and 25 days).

Wasteful Milan not punished by woeful Atalanta

Milan squandered a number of good chances prior to Messias finally adding a second goal, but Atalanta failed to offer any sort of attacking threat throughout the match.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side did not attempt a shot of any note in the first half of a league game for the first time since Opta started recording such data in the 2004-05 campaign, while their three shots in the second half were off target.

Key Opta Facts:

– Milan have won four games without conceding a goal in all competitions for the first time since February 2018 (five in that case – three in Serie A and two in the Europa League).
– Atalanta have lost in four of their last five matches in all competitions (W1), as many defeats as they collected in the previous 21 games played.
– With just two shots attempted, Atalanta equalled their record negative of shots in a Serie A match since 2004-05 (since Opta collects the data) – the last time they fired only three shots was back in April 2013 versus Genoa.
– Messias has scored a goal in two Serie A matches in a row for the first time since April 2021 for Crotone.
– Milan midfielder Messias has now scored the same number of goals (nine) and provided the same number of assists (four) for Milan (43 apps) and for Crotone (36 apps).

What’s next?

Milan are back in Serie A action next Saturday with a trip to Fiorentina, while Atalanta host Udinese the same day.
