Stat Attack: All you need to know about Brentford 2-1 Aston Villa

Mads Roerslev’s late winner gave Brentford their first win since December, coming from behind to beat Aston Villa 2-1

Danny Ings gave the visitors the lead with his fourth goal of the season after 16 minutes. Slipped through by Emi Buendia, he fired past Alvaro Fernandez with ease.

Yoane Wissa levelled three minutes before half time, killing Roerslev’s pass before bending into the far corner.

Having assisted the Bees’ equaliser, Roerslev gave Thomas Frank’s side three precious points seven minutes from time.

The ball was worked out to the wing-back on the right and, after Emi Martinez saved his initial effort, the Dane rattled home the rebound.

More to follow.

Did you know?

Only West Ham (12) and Everton (11) have won more points from losing positions in the Premier League than Brentford this season (9).

Since the start of last season, Aston Villa have lost more Premier League games after scoring the first goal than any other side in the competition (8).

Brentford’s equaliser was their first ever Premier League goal scored from outside the box, leaving Watford as the only side without a goal from distance in the competition this season.

Against no side has Aston Villa’s  Buendia been involved in more goals in English league football than he has against Brentford (5 – 3 goals, 2 assists), with the Argentine scoring or assisting a goal in all five of his appearances against the Bees.

Since Buendia joined Norwich ahead of the 2018-19, only Trent Alexander-Arnold (40) has registered more assists in the top four tiers of English league football than the Argentine (38).

Since the start of the 2019-20 campaign, Aston Villa’s Ings has scored the opening goal in more different Premier League games than any other player (18).

Wissa is Brentford’s top goalscorer in all competitions this season with six goals, with his strike today just his third in the Premier League.

Match-winner Roerslev became just the second player to both score and assist in a single Premier League game for Brentford after Ivan Toney also did so against Wolves in September.
