Wilfried Zaha’s brace ensured Roy Hodgson’s first game against Crystal Palace ended in a 4-1 defeat for Watford.
Hodgson, 74, got his first Hornets win against Aston Villa on Saturday. But his new side came back down to earth with a bump against his previous employers — themselves winless in six Premier League games before tonight.
Jean-Philippe Mateta put the visitors in front after 15 minutes when he collected Conor Gallagher’s cross, swivelled and lashed beyond Ben Foster.
The Eagles’ lead lasted just three minutes. Kiko Femenia’s cross was met by Watford skipper Moussa Sissoko who powered a header home — his first goal for the Hertfordshire side.
Two minutes before half time, Gallagher turned scorer in stunning fashion. Tyrick Mitchell found the Chelsea loanee with a pin-point cross and Gallagher smashed into the corner with aplomb.
Zaha killed Watford off with two goals in the final five minutes, first collecting Jordan Ayew’s pass and crashing home before adding his second on the break.
