Yarmolenko can decide
David Moyes will let Andriy Yarmolenko decide whether he wants to be involved in West Ham’s FA Cup clash at Southampton tomorrow night.
Ukraine international Yarmolenko, 32, is understandably concerned by the conflict in his homeland following the invasion by Russia.
And Hammers boss Moyes is not putting any extra pressure on the winger ahead of the trip to St Mary’s.
He said: “Andriy came back in yesterday and we had a good chat. He is really upset with the whole situation.
“We won’t rush him. If he feels fine, he will travel with the team. If he doesn’t, we will give him more time off. We will make the decision today.
“We will give him a chance to go with his own feelings.
“He has lots of family and friends in Ukraine. He is worried for everyone. He realises the difficulty.
“He is a long way away and can’t do anything about it. He is upset and rightly so.”
Ahead of their 1-0 win over Wolves last Sunday, West Ham’s players showed their support for Yarmolenko and Ukraine by warming up in shirts bearing his name and number.
Declan Rice, who skippered the side at the London Stadium, also held up his team-mate’s No7 jersey before kick-off.
Canaries will aim to soar high
Dean Smith is determined to ensure Norwich put their relegation fears to one side tomorrow and give Liverpool a run for their money at Anfield.
The Canaries are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table and the temptation would be for Smith to make wholesale changes for the FA Cup fifth round encounter with Jurgen Klopp’s Carabao Cup winners.
But the former Aston Villa boss knows an upset on Merseyside would give his side a timely boost.
He said: “This is the oldest cup competition in the world. The FA Cup means a lot to us and we’ll be trying to go out and win.
“But we have to balance our team knowing we have a massive [league] game against Brentford on Saturday. There is a balancing act we have to play.
“We’re lucky now that the competition allows five subs. That’s the sort of thing we’re looking at.
“We’re looking at the robustness of our players and the ones that can play and recover very quickly.”
Women’s FA Cup draw
Holders Chelsea have been handed a home tie against Birmingham in the quarter-finals of the Women’s FA Cup.
Elsewhere, Arsenal host Coventry, Everton head to Manchester City and West Ham travel to Ipswich.
All four matches are scheduled to be played on March 20.
