Sad for Roman
Newcastle co-owner Amanda Staveley is sad Roman Abramovich is parting company with Chelsea.
Before the Blues beat Luton 3-2 in midweek to secure their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals, Abramovich announced he was selling the club he purchased in 2003.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, British politicians have called for him to be sanctioned due to alleged strong ties with Vladimir Putin.
And Staveley, who has also found herself under scrutiny due to Newcastle’s relationship with Saudi Arabia, has sympathy for the 55-year-old Russian billionaire.
She said: “We’re always going to have geopolitical issues.
“I’m really sad that someone is going to have a football club taken away because of a relationship he may have with someone.
“I don’t think that’s particularly fair to be honest. But we do have to hold all of our relationships to account.”
Conor praises Vieira
Conor Gallagher has thanked Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira for putting his faith in him.
The midfielder, 22, has been in sensational form since joining the Eagles on loan from Chelsea last summer.
Heading into tomorrow’s Premier League clash at Wolves, Gallagher has netted eight goals and laid on three assists for the Eagles in the top flight.
He was rewarded with his first England cap in November and was named Young Player of the Year at the London Football Awards last night.
Gallagher said: “I’ve got to give a lot of credit to Crystal Palace. They’ve given me the confidence and platform to show people what I can do.
“I feel like the gaffer knows how to get the best out of me. He knew how he wants me to play and the best way I can show what I can do.
“He has given me confidence throughout the season by playing me as much as he has and having trust in me and talking to me, so I’m really thankful to him.
“He’s helped me so much so far this season and I feel like receiving this award as well, he’s a big part of it.
“He’s been amazing to work under and I’m hoping to learn even more from him until the end of the season.
“From day one I feel like I was welcomed like I was at home, which means a lot to me. I like to be comfortable, I like to be confident on and off the pitch.
“The people here, players and staff, the manager, they’ve all helped me with that and helped me play the best I can. I feel like that’s a big factor.”
