Tomori is Lion in wait
Fikayo Tomori refuses to dwell on his omission from Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
The AC Milan centre-back was widely expected to be called up for the friendlies with Switzerland and Ivory Coast.
But Tomori, who has enjoyed a fine season since joining the Rossoneri from Chelsea last summer, has not given up hope of forcing his way into Southgate’s World Cup plans.
He said: “There are so many good players in my position. Obviously, I don’t have a right to be in the squad.
“Every single player, their dream is to play in the World Cup. So with my eye on that, I know the only way I’m going to get there is playing well for Milan.
“I’ve just got to keep on playing well for Milan, keep on working hard, and hopefully it will come.”
Tomori, 24, has been capped twice by the Three Lions.
Juv been warned
Italian Football Federation chief Gabriele Gravina has told Juventus they will be kicked out of Serie A if the Super League materialises.
Juve president Andrea Agnelli was one of the architects of the breakaway competition announced by 12 European clubs in April 2021.
After the initial plans were met with widespread condemnation, nine of the 12 quickly withdrew their backing but the Old Lady, Real Madrid and Barcelona are still involved in the project.
And Gravina said: “Juventus would be excluded from Serie A if it becomes a reality.
“The Super League is the wrong answer to a real problem. Italy must think about how to make the league more attractive for expanding markets.”
Boost for the Potters
Stoke’s owners have reduced the club’s debts by £160million.
Bet365 Group have converted £40m of loans into equity in the Championship outfit’s holding company and waived £120m of shareholder loans.
Potters joint chairman John Coates said: “This greatly strengthens the club’s balance sheet and also provides more long-term stability.”
