The Serie A title race is among the most competitive in Europe with seven points covering the top four with less than two months of the season remaining.
Milan, Napoli, Inter Milan and Juventus are all still in the hunt and go into an exciting run-in with all to play for.
Here we assess the key fixtures to come and deliver our pick to end the campaign on top.
State of play
Success-starved Milan have gone 10 consecutive seasons without winning the Scudetto — their longest drought since the 70s — but they are best placed to secure the title this term.
The Rossoneri have had a very consistent campaign and hold a three-point lead to second-placed Napoli with eight games to go.
Inter are six points off the pace having played a game less, and Juventus are a point further back.
Old Lady to fall short
Juve’s challenge looks the most unlikely, and they may ultimately pay the price for taking just two points from their first four games of the season.
The Old Lady’s next match, at home to Inter, looks a must-win fixture, because further dropped points would probably signal the end of their hopes.
A Champions League exit to Villarreal has dented confidence but in the division’s top scorer Dusan Vlahovic, they undoubtedly have the fire power to mount a winning streak between now and May.
Inter injuries
Inter have a better chance because they are the league’s top scorers and have already put together a winning sequence of eight league games between November and January.
However, the Nerazzurri have struggled since the start of February, winning one of seven league games, and have picked up injuries to defender Stefan de Vrij and midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, forcing them to miss the last two matches.
Coach Simone Inzaghi will hope that a winning mentality fostered in last season’s domestic triumph will see them over the line again this time.
Tall order for Napoli
Napoli are targeting their first Scudetto in 32 years and are anchored by the best defensive record in the division with just 22 goals conceded.
They look potent up front with star forward Victor Osimhen scoring four goals in the last two games, but the upcoming fixture at Atalanta looks a tough one, and a poor result could leave them with a mountain to climb.
Milan to win Serie A
Milan are the team everyone is out to beat but their run-in looks favourable with the trip to Lazio standing out as their most difficult fixture.
Stefano Pioli’s side are not the most exciting but they have kept four successive clean sheets and — if they can hold their nerve over the next eight weeks — they will be difficult to overtake.
With a balanced blend of experienced heads like Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to go alongside young talents Rafael Leao and Fikayo Tomori, the San Siro club appear to have hit on a perfect formula.
