Stat Attack: All you need to know about Newcastle 1-0 Wolves

Chris Wood’s second-half penalty handed Newcastle a 1-0 win over Wolves at St. James’ Park — ending the Magpies’ three-game losing streak.

Wood thought he had opened the scoring in the first half when he fired home after superb work from Miguel Almiron, but a VAR check deemed Bruno Guimaraes to have been offside in the build-up and the goal was chalked off.

The striker eventually got on the scoresheet in the 72nd minute, however, after being upended by Jose Sa in the box and dusting himself off to thump the resulting spot-kick down the middle — and win the game for the hosts.

Wolves would have moved above Manchester United and West Ham into sixth with a victory, but remain eighth after slipping to defeat.
