Burnley battled to a valuable point at Aston Villa that lifts them above the relegation on goal difference going into the final day.
Ashley Barnes broke the deadlock from the spot on the stroke of half-time after Emiliano Buendia tripped Maxwel Cornet in the box.
Buendia made amends for his first-half error soon after the restart by volleying past a despairing Nick Pope.
Neither side was able to find a winner but Burnley were reduced to 10 men in stoppage time as Matthew Lowton was sent off following late challenge on Calum Chambers.
