McCoist mullers United
Ally McCoist has delivered a scathing assessment of Manchester United following their 4-0 humiliation at Brentford.
Erik ten Hag’s side were battered by the Bees just six days on from a dire 2-1 home defeat to Brighton and currently prop up the Premier League table for the first time since August 1992.
Experienced pundit McCoist, 59, pulled no punches when delivering his analysis of the Red Devils’ plight.
The Scot told talkSPORT: “They were all over the place. Defensively, it’s as poor a performance as I’ve seen from any Premier League team in a long time.
“You look at the body language. I think body language tells you a lot and they’ve not got the body language of a team that wants to play for each other, or even play at all for that matter.
“They are scared. They don’t want the ball. Confidence is absolutely zilch, none. They’ve got massive problems.
“You can look at the goals and dissect them, of course. But even trying to look at this Manchester United team the last couple of games, trying to find an odd positive, I can’t find any at all.”
Things do not get any easier for United either, with Liverpool the next visitors to Old Trafford in a week’s time.
Tuchel faces FA investigation
The FA will investigate comments made by Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel following his side’s ill-tempered 2-2 draw with London rivals Tottenham yesterday.
Blues boss Tuchel, 48, was sent off by referee Anthony Taylor at the full-time whistle alongside his opposite number Antonio Conte following a spat between the pair.
When asked at full-time if he agreed with sections of his club’s supporters who have petitioned for Taylor not to officiate Chelsea games, Tuchel said: “Maybe that would be better.”
While that comment looks set to have repercussions, the German was keen to play down his disagreement with the Spurs manager.
Of the pair’s heated exchange, he said: “No hard feelings. I feel like it was a fair tackle from him and a fair tackle from me, players wouldn’t get up and say I’m so sorry I tackled you.
“We did not insult each other, we did not hit each other, we were just fighting for our teams and that’s it. From my side, absolutely no hard feelings and I’m surprised we both got a red card.”
Laird joins QPR
Championship outfit QPR have taken Manchester United full-back Ethan Laird on a season-long loan.
Laird, 21, enjoyed spells in the second tier with both Swansea and Bournemouth last term and has represented England at Under-17s, Under-18s and Under-19s level.
Hoops boss Michael Beale said: “Obviously, it is nice to take a boy from Manchester United and for them to trust us with one of their best young players in terms of developing him onwards and upwards.
“He has done really well in the Championship already, and I think he is someone we can be really excited about.
“I like the full-backs to be an addition to our attack, and he provides that. He is very aggressive in terms of one-vs-one attacking, and he is capable of providing assists as well as goals.”
