Use your head… but not like that
Jamie Carragher had little sympathy for Darwin Nunez after he was given his marching orders last night.
Liverpool’s new recruit was shown a straight red for headbutting Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen with his side trailing to a Wilfried Zaha goal.
Luis Diaz produced a fine solo effort just minutes later to salvage a point but Carragher was not impressed to see Nunez spoil his first appearance at Anfield.
The Reds legend said: “He knows what he has done and he will be absolutely devastated. He has let himself and the team down.
“If he had been on the pitch, I am sure Liverpool would have won the game. It is not just tonight, we might not see him back in full flow for five weeks now.”
Nunez, 23, will now serve a three-match ban, starting with Monday’s clash against arch-rivals Manchester United.
Minutes in the bank
New signing Carney Chukwuemeka joined Ben Chilwell, Ethan Ampadu and Trevoh Chalobah in action last night as Chelsea’s development squad lost 3-0 to Fulham.
With first-team head coach Thomas Tuchel among a sold-out crowd at Kingsmeadow, Chukwuemeka and Co were downed by a hat-trick from Luke Harris.
The 18-year-old midfielder joined Tuchel’s side from Aston Villa earlier this month for £20million.
