Transfer Talk: United close in on Casemiro as Antony bid rejected

Manchester United are moving quickly to secure a transfer for Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro, according to Sky Sports.

The Brazilian midfielder, 30, has been at Madrid for nine years, lifting an impressive 18 major honours with Los Blancos.

Now, with Erik ten Hag calling from Manchester, Casemiro is said to be keen on the prospect of a new challenge in the Premier League.

The Red Devils would pay an initial £50.7million, with a potential further £8.5m in add-ons also heading Madrid’s way.

Without a guarantee of regular minutes under Carlo Ancelotti this season, the prospect of a four-year deal with the option of a further year, keeping him at Old Trafford until he is 35, holds strong appeal.

Casemiro is unlikely to finalise the move in time to play against Liverpool on Monday night, but Ten Hag’s new era looks to be finally moving in a positive direction.

Elsewhere, United have had a £67.6m bid for Ajax winger Antony rejected, say The Mirror.

Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder — who has replaced Ten Hag at the helm — has urged the hierarchy to turn down any approach for the 22-year-old forward.

Casemiro’s fellow Selecao international has been a top target for the new regime at Old Trafford all summer, but it seems Ten Hag will have to conjure something special to secure his services.
