Blues to keep spending
Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez could be the next big-money arrival at Chelsea.
The Mexican, 24, is reportedly the subject of a £43million bid from the Blues, who have already snapped up Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana.
Co-owner Todd Boehly has arguably been the busiest man in English football during the transfer window with his work to overhaul the playing squad at Stamford Bridge.
As well as adding a top-class midfielder, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel wants to see a new striker arrive in West London before the 11pm BST deadline.
And that forward could well be former Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Blues are said to be in advanced talks with Barcelona to sign the 33-year-old hitman, who played under Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund.
Wednesday night recap
Ahead of a what promises to be a big day of wheeling and dealing, we round up last night’s main developments.
Mikel Arteta hinted Arsenal may dip back into the transfer market before the window closes.
Speaking after his side’s 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, the Gunners boss said: “We are just looking at options in the market. If the right player is available and we can do it, we will try.”
David Moyes confirmed West Ham have received a bid for Craig Dawson, who was missing from the squad for the 1-1 draw with Tottenham.
The experienced centre-back, 32, is believed to be keen on a return to the Midlands to be closer to his family but the Hammers want to keep him at the London Stadium.
Moyes said: “We have received a bid.” Asked if he would like Dawson to stay, the Scot added: “I would.”
Abdoullah Ba joined Sunderland, subject to international clearance and a work permit.
The midfielder, 19, was handed a five-year contract by the Black Cats after switching to Wearside from French side Le Havre for an undisclosed fee.
Forward Amad Diallo, who spent last term at Rangers, followed Ba to the Stadium of Light by completing a loan move from Manchester United.
Meanwhile, former United and Real Sociedad winger Adnan Januzaj will ply his trade in LaLiga once again this season after joining Sevilla as a free agent on a four-year deal.
Fulham left-back Joe Bryan joined Ligue 1 side Nice on loan until the end of the campaign.
