According to the Evening Standard, the West London outfit have already decided to continue spending aggressively in January, with priority still to add depth in the centre of the park.
Alvarez is reportedly top of Tuchel’s list, despite a £40million offer being turned down by Ajax last week.
The 24-year-old informed the Eredivisie champions of his desire to make the switch to England but found his club unwilling to consider any further potential exits after losing Antony to Manchester United.
Chelsea are not after only the Mexican, however, with the report suggesting they will also move for Russian international Arsen Zakharyan.
The Dinamo Moscow midfielder is just 19 years of age and is being monitored by a host of top European clubs.
It proved impossible to bring the youngster in during the summer window due to sanctions that have been placed on Russia by the west, but Chelsea will try again in January if circumstances allow.
A £12.6m release clause means that if the player is keen, a deal should be relatively easy to strike from a footballing perspective.
