Liverpool are exploring a potential swap deal involving Barcelona’s Memphis Depay and Roberto Firmino.
Depay, 28, spent two seasons in the Premier League with Manchester United, scoring just twice in the process, so may feel he has a point to prove in England.
The Dutch international looked to have played his final game with Barca at the end of the 2021-22 campaign before a move to Juventus fell through late in the summer.
Now, SPORT are reporting that Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring Depay to Anfield as the Reds look to upgrade ageing forward Firmino.
The recent arrival of Darwin Nunez for £85million suggests that the 55-cap Brazilian international, 30, is surplus to requirements with Diogo Jota also preferred over him in attack.
A potential swap deal may prove a smart piece of business for both clubs, with both Depay and Firmino’s contracts set to expire in 2023.
Depay has had a mixed career but after swapping Manchester for Lyon in 2017, he scored 76 goals in 178 appearances in France.
Having featured just twice in La Liga this season, it looks time for him to reignite his career, while Barcelona could be an opportunity for Firmino to prove he can still star at the top level.
