Tottenham vs Eintracht Frankfurt predictions: Spurs can take big step

In such a competitive Champions League group, the pressure is on both Tottenham and Eintracht Frankfurt for a positive result on Wednesday night in North London.

Only two points separate the top three sides in Group D, with Sporting Lisbon the frontrunners after the first three rounds of the competition on six points.

Spurs and Frankfurt are level on four points after neither side could break the deadlock in a goalless draw between the pair in Germany last week.

The stats

Antonio Conte’s Spurs do find themselves in inconsistent form at present, with a loss, a draw and a win in their last three outings in all competitions.

However, Spurs do have an excellent record at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season, winning all of their five home games so far.

In those five games, Tottenham have only conceded four goals, while scoring 15 at the other end.

Frankfurt head into Wednesday’s encounter on the back of a 3-0 defeat on the road at Bochum to leave them down in eighth place in the Bundesliga standings.

That match sums up Frankfurt’s issue of late with a lack of goals, as Die Adler have only managed to find the back of the net once in their three Champions League games so far this season.

Team news

Tottenham were given a scare over the weekend when top goalscorer Harry Kane was forced off in the 1-0 Premier League victory at Brighton with an ankle injury.

However, reports have suggested the knock Kane picked up at the Amex Stadium is not as bad as some might have feared and the England striker should be fit to start.

Spurs will still have to do without Sweden star Dejan Kulusevski as the midfielder remains on the sidelines with a thigh injury he picked up while on international duty — despite his return to training.

For the visitors, Randal Kolo Mauni should be back in the starting line-up after completing his recent suspension.

Longer-term absentees Almamy Toure, Buta and Jerome Onguene are all still out injured ahead of the trip to the English capital.

Following that surprising defeat at Bochum, manager Oliver Glasner is likely to tinker with his starting line-up as they look to try and break down a Spurs side that have been so strong at home.

Prediction

Given Tottenham’s perfect winning start at home this season, it’s difficult to look past another victory for the hosts in North London.

Frankfurt’s lack of cutting edge in attack might well be last season’s Europa League winners’ downfall once again.

A win for Spurs would see Conte’s side take a big stride forward in their hopes of reaching the knockout stages, as they would move three points ahead of Frankfurt with just two games remaining.

Given Frankfurt’s shortcomings in front of goal, a Spurs win to zero looks to offer value at 5/4, while in-form striker Kane is available at 13/5 to open the scoring on the night.
