West Brom vs Sheff Utd predictions: Corberan can give Baggies much-needed lift

– West Brom set for boost under new boss Carlos Corberan
– Baggies have a strong home record against Sheffield United
– Recommended bet: Back West Brom to win

Carlos Corberan gets his tenure as West Bromwich Albion manager underway on Saturday when the Baggies welcome Sheffield United to The Hawthorns.

The West Midlands outfit parted company with Steve Bruce earlier this month and have taken their time in appointing a replacement.

Gaining experience at Leeds United under former Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa, Corberan has since had head coach roles at both Huddersfield Town and Olympiacos.

With a new challenge ahead of him to get the Baggies back to the Premier League, Corberan will be desperate for a winning start when the out-of-form Blades head to the Black Country.

Team news

Corberan has just got his feet under the table at The Hawthorns and has had little time to assess his options ahead of Saturday’s game.

The good news for the Spaniard is that he does not have any serious or fresh injuries to contend with ahead of the visit of the Blades.

As for the visitors, boss Paul Heckingbottom will have to continue without Wales international Rhys Norrington-Davies.

The defender was carried off in the 1-0 defeat to Cardiff City last week and is now set to miss the World Cup in Qatar with a hamstring injury.

In more positive news, Enda Setvens and Ciaran Clark have both returned to full training and are in contention for the weekend.

The stats

With just one win in their last 12 games in all competitions, it has been a poor spell for the Baggies ahead of Saturday’s home game.

Down in 23rd place in the Championship table, Corberan will need to steady the ship quickly if the Baggies are to start climbing up the standings.

Meanwhile, Sheff Utd find themselves in fifth place going into the weekend’s games but the South Yorkshire outfit have fallen off the pace in recent weeks.

After a four-game winning streak, Heckingbottom’s side have since gone six Championship matches without a victory ahead of their trip to the West Midlands.

The Hawthorns has certainly not proved a happy hunting ground for the Blades of late, as they have lost on each of their last three visits to the venue without even scoring a goal.

The most recent meeting between these sides came in the EFL Cup at the start of the season, with Karlan Grant scoring in the 73rd minute to secure a 1-0 win for the Baggies.

Prediction

A new manager with fresh ideas should give West Brom a much-needed lift as they look to get themselves out of trouble at the wrong end of the table.

Given their strong home form against the Blades, a home win at 13/10 with LiveScore Bet looks to be good value for a Baggies side that have managed to keep United off the scoresheet in their last three visits to The Hawthorns.

Heckingbottom’s team have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six games in the Championship and their defensive frailty is another reason to side with a home win in this one.
