Aston Villa secured a third win in four Premier League matches as they marched to a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth at Villa Park.
Douglas Luiz opened the scoring early on as he was picked out by Leon Bailey to convert from close range.
Jacob Ramsey doubled the hosts’ lead in the 80th minute when he skipped past Jack Stephens before slotting his effort under Neto’s outstretched arm.
Emiliano Buendia then sealed all three points heading home Luiz’s corner which was flicked on by Tyrone Mings in the closing minutes of the match.
The win vaulted Unai Emery’s side to the top half of the table, further solidifying their Premier League safety.
This loss is a big blow for Bournemouth who remain in the bottom three bringing them back down to earth after their surprise victory over Liverpool last weekend.
Speaking after the game, Villa boss, Emery highlighted the importance of keeping a clean sheet.
He said: “First is to get the clean sheet and second is to win through the clean sheet, both are very important.
“Before the match against Crystal Palace, we conceded eight goals in two matches here, which was completely upsetting for us.
“We reacted very well. The last two matches, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, we achieved clean sheets and won.
“We played two very good matches and did it in a fantastic way.”
In response to the result, Bournemouth manager Gary O’Neil said: “Disappointed, we didn’t start well enough, we gave [Aston] Villa a head start.
“We were right in the game at 1-0, created some good opportunities they had some as well [chances] but we need to be more clinical.
“We should definitely get back to 1-1, obviously the end is a little bit open and we had a lot of attacking players on the pitch and the game got away from us.”
However, it was not all doom and gloom for the Cherries as David Brooks made his return to the pitch after recovering from his cancer diagnosis.
O’Neil said: “I’m delighted for Brooksy. I’m disappointed he came back in a game we didn’t get anything from, but the bigger picture is it’s fantastic for him. He’ll be ready to go again after the international break.”
