Chelsea vs Liverpool predictions: Reds’ road woes may continue at the Bridge

– Chelsea are unbeaten in their last six meetings with Liverpool after 90 minutes
– Liverpool have picked up just four points in seven away league games in 2023
– Recommended Bet: Chelsea Draw No Bet

Chelsea and Liverpool do battle at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening with the pair desperate to respond to their latest in what has been a long list of setbacks this season.

Graham Potter paid the price for Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday, a result which saw him sacked after less than seven months in charge.

Liverpool sit eighth, four points above the Blues with a game in hand, but have suffered back-to-back defeats at Bournemouth and Manchester City to fall off the pace in the race for Champions League qualification.

Team news

Chelsea remain without Edouard Mendy, Cesar Azpilicueta, Armando Broja and Thiago Silva while the match is also expected to come too soon for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

For Liverpool, Luis Diaz is back in training but is not expected to feature at Stamford Bridge, while Thiago Alcantara is still a few weeks away from a return.

The stats

The last five meetings between these teams have finished as draws after 90 minutes and many may be expecting a repeat result from the underachieving duo.

Chelsea will be hoping for a new manager bounce as Bruno Saltor, Potter’s former assistant, takes charge of their visit from Liverpool.

The Blues need a response after winning only three of their 10 home league games since mid-October but they should be buoyed by Liverpool’s failures away from Anfield.

The visitors have picked up only 12 of their 42 points on the road, with their only win in seven away league games this calendar year coming against a Newcastle side that went down to 10 men after just 22 minutes.

There have been two or fewer goals scored in nine of Chelsea’s last 10 home league games, while Liverpool have failed to score in four of their last six away league outings.

Prediction

It is tough to place much trust in either Chelsea or Liverpool at present but it is possible the sacking of Potter could spark some sort of revival for the Blues.

It was 0-0 when these two teams locked horns at Anfield in January but the Reds have been troubled on their travels all season, winning just three times in 14 away games and suffering eight defeats.

Since the turn of the year, Liverpool have lost at Brentford, Brighton, Wolves, Bournemouth and Manchester City in the Premier League and they have found goals hard to come by on their travels, having fired blanks in four of their last six on the road.

Chelsea may have performed even worse than Liverpool have done this term but after a heavy winter of investment they do have the resources to turn things around and it should only be a matter of time until things pick up for them.
