Transfer Talk: Ten Hag eyes Frimpong to fill right-back void

Premier League giants Manchester United have made contact with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong ahead of a potential summer switch.

Reports from Sky Sports in Germany suggest that Erik ten Hag is a keen admirer of the Dutch talent and he is open to leaving the Bundesliga outfit.

The 22-year-old has been an integral part of Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen side, who recently overcame Bayern Munich at the BayArena.

United are said to be prioritising reinforcements at right-back when the current campaign finishes, with neither Diogo Dalot or Aaron Wan-Bissaka meeting the ex-Ajax boss’ demands.

Frimpong is yet to earn a senior cap for the Netherlands but has proved his worth in Germany’s top flight, scoring eight times and providing six assists in 26 league appearances.

His attacking flair will be of interest to Ten Hag, who prefers to play attractive football on the front foot.

But with a contract that runs until 2025, the Germans will be under no obligation to negotiate a quick deal with the Red Devils.

For now, Frimpong’s focus will be on helping his side secure European football with just eight games to go in the Bundesliga.
