Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United predictions: Both teams to play part in thriller

– Both teams have scored in five of Nottingham Forest’s last six games
– Before this weekend Forest had the second-worst defensive record in the division
– Recommended bet: Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals

In a game that will have major repercussions at both ends of the Premier League table, Nottingham Forest host Manchester United in Sunday’s late kick-off.

The Tricky Trees looked to be comfortable at one point in the season but an injury crisis and a downturn in form has seen them back in major relegation danger.

Steve Cooper’s side are winless in their last nine league matches and will be hoping their form at the City Ground can inspire them to a crucial three points.

Visitors United have injury issues of their own in defence and will be hoping to bounce back after a disappointing 2-2 draw with Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday.

Erik Ten Hag’s side have struggled on the road too, winning just one of their last five away trips and losing three of those.

With both teams desperate for all three points, an entertaining affair looks likely.

Team news

Both teams are suffering with major injury issues.

Forest are without Giulian Biancone, Chris Wood, Willy Boly, Dean Henderson, Cheikhou Kouyate, Moussa Niakhate and Omar Richards through injury.

On top of that, Renan Lodi, Ryan Yates, Gustavo Scarpa and Serge Aurier are all big doubts to be passed fit for this encounter.

United had to finish Thursday’s Europa League match with 10 men after Lisandro Martinez hobbled off with a broken metatarsal.

Raphael Varane also went off injured in that match, joining Donny van de Beek, Alejandro Garnacho and Tom Heaton on the sidelines.

Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford are also doubts for Sunday’s clash.

The stats

Forest have taken 21 of their 27 points at home this season and will be boosted by United’s away record.

Ten Hag’s men have won six, drawn two and lost six of their games on the road.

The Tricky Trees have also opened the scoring in three of their last four matches so will be aiming for another fast start.

The two teams have already met three times this season, with two of those games going over 2.5 goals.

Predictions

Given the injury issues in both teams’ defences, this looks set to be an entertaining affair.

Both teams have found the net in five of Forest’s last six matches and their open nature can lead to exciting clashes.

Ten Hag’s reluctance to rotate his side despite the heavy schedule looks to be coming back to haunt him as his squad has been stretched thin.

While he may have an eye on the second leg against Sevilla on Thursday, United still have plenty of work to do to secure a top-four finish for next season so plenty of goalmouth action in expected.
