Top bargain buys from the Premier League’s relegation-threatened clubs

With less than four weeks to go in the Premier League season, the relegation battle is set to reach a thrilling conclusion.

All of the bottom five clubs will be relying on their stars to drive them to safety but failure to do so could see them leave their current side for a reduced price in June.

We take a look at the potential bargain buys from the Premier League’s relegation-threatened clubs.

Southampton

James Ward-Prowse is an 11-cap England international and has been a key member of Southampton’s midfield for a decade.

But the 28-year-old is far too talented to be playing in the Championship and with his contract expiring in 2026, it may be time for the Saints to go marching on without him.

Romeo Lavia is another name who will spark interest across the top flight should the South Coast side go down, with Manchester City reportedly keen on bringing the midfielder back to the Etihad.

Everton

A new stadium may be on the way for Everton but it will not be enough to keep the likes of Jordan Pickford, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Idrissa Gueye at the club if they were to drop down a division.

England’s No1 has been linked with Tottenham and other top-half teams while Gueye swapped Paris Saint-Germain for Merseyside and would likely not see out the remaining year on his contract.

Calvert-Lewin has been unlucky with injuries this season but his quality would still see a big club come in for him if he can finish with a flourish for the Toffees.

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have signed 30 players since their return to the Premier League, spending over £150million and not having much to show for it.

Steve Cooper may be glad to get rid of some members of his bloated squad but the loss of Brennan Johnson and Morgan Gibbs-White would be a real blow to Forest’s prospects of bouncing back.

Johnson has finally made his mark at the top level, bagging eight times this season, while Gibbs-White has been a catalyst of much of the East Midlanders’ attacking play.

Leeds

Despite a string of calamitous defeats, Leeds will be hoping they can dine at English football’s top table for at least another year.

But if the Elland Road outfit does return to the Championship, they will likely need to make do without Weston McKennie and Luis Sinisterra, who will surely have suitors elsewhere.

McKennie is on loan from Italian giants Juventus and is not expected to hang around West Yorkshire while Sinisterra has caught the eye with three goals in five games before a season-ending ankle injury.

Leicester

James Maddison is the obvious name to be linked with a move away from Leicester and he is likely to depart even if the Foxes do stay up.

The England midfielder has given five seasons of service to the East Midlands outfit and has stepped up with 17 goal contributions in 26 appearances this term.

A £50m bid may seem steep for a supposed bargain but the team clinching Maddison’s signature would receive one of England’s best attacking talents.
