– Brentford have picked up 31 of their 50 points at home
– West Ham have collected just 12 points on the road
– Recommended bet: Brentford to win
Brentford are looking to tighten their grip on a top-half finish when they welcome West Ham to the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday.
Europe appears to be off the agenda for the Bees but they can be proud of their exploits this term and they go into the final three games knowing they are certain to better last season’s 13th-place finish.
Brentford head into this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting ninth and eager to bounce back after a 1-0 loss at Liverpool last Saturday.
West Ham are the visitors and they may have already done enough to avoid relegation after pulling seven points clear of the drop zone.
Brentford vs West Ham (Sunday, 2pm)
Team news
Keane Lewis-Potter (knee), Christian Norgaard (Achilles), Thomas Strakosha (calf) and Pontus Jansson (thigh) remain in the treatment room for Brentford, but left-back Rico Henry should be available after overcoming a hand injury sustained against Liverpool.
West Ham boss David Moyes will make a late call on the availability of Angelo Ogbonna after he missed Thursday’s Europa Conference League semi-final against AZ Alkmaar due to illness.
Michail Antonio was seen limping heavily at the end of that clash and could be rested along with several other senior figures ahead of next week’s return leg in the Netherlands.
The stats
Brentford have won all three previous Premier League meetings with West Ham in the Premier League, running out 2-0 victors in December’s reverse at the London Stadium, but the Hammers did win 1-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium in the FA Cup tie in January.
The Bees have only lost two of their 17 home outings in the league this term (W8, D7), losing to Arsenal and Newcastle, while Thomas Frank’s side have netted in 11 consecutive home top-flight matches.
West Ham have lost seven of their last eight London derbies on the road in the league, including four of five this season.
Jarrod Bowen has scored only four times in 67 away league appearances and he has failed to score in his last 22 on the road.
Prediction
At this stage of the season, Brentford could be excused for taking their foot off the gas with relegation not on the agenda and Europe looking out of reach.
However, Sunday’s clash looks like a great opportunity to further swell their points tally at the expense of a West Ham side that could be distracted.
The Hammers lead AZ 2-1 after the first leg of their Europa Conference League semi-final and, understandably, players will have their mind on next week’s return fixture in the Netherlands.
West Ham look to have done enough to secure another season in the Premier League and, with changes expected to the starting XI, Brentford offer good value to get the win.
