Transfer Talk: Liverpool plot £70m Mac Allister raid

Liverpool are preparing a £70million bid as they try and beat Manchester United and Arsenal to Brighton playmaker Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentine World Cup winner has drawn plenty of admirers this season thanks to his performances in the Premier League and Qatar.

And Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are set to jump to the front of the queue with a big-money offer, according to The Mirror.

Mac Allister would be a welcome shot in the arm to a midfield that has struggled this season and is set to lose free agents James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.

The 24-year-old joined Brighton in 2019 but returned to Argentina to continue his development on two loan deals before making his debut in March 2020.

He has since firmly established himself in the heart of the Seagulls midfield and his ten goals in 30 Premier League outings this season have scouts flocking to the Amex.

Mac Allister played six times as his country lifted the World Cup in December and drew plaudits for his dynamic performances in the engine room.

Having tied their talent down to a long-term deal before the tournament, Brighton will command a huge fee but have operated on a model of selling star players and trusting their scouting network to find replacements.

Chelsea star Mason Mount is also on Liverpool’s radar but the England ace’s future could depend on whether Mauricio Pochettino takes over in the Stamford Bridge dugout.
