Sam Kerr claimed Wembley feels like “home” after scoring in her third successive Women’s FA Cup final as Chelsea downed Manchester United.
The Australia captain’s 68th-minute goal made it three FA Cup wins in a row after a close contest with their Women’s Super League title rivals.
And Kerr, the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year, was delighted to continue her love affair under the arch.
She told Optus Sport: “It feels amazing to win. This is an important trophy for us.
“We didn’t have our best game. When you don’t play as well as you’d like but you find a way, that shows a great team.
“I don’t think I deserved Player of the Match, there’s so many amazing players on our team that don’t get the credit. We’ll enjoy this one as a team.
“I love this stadium, it’s 20 minutes from my house. It kind of feels like home.”
Focus will now return to the WSL as the Blues prepare to face West Ham on Wednesday for a chance to go two points clear of United at the summit.
And while Emma Hayes’ side are desperate to secure their third consecutive domestic double, Kerr revealed celebrating their Wembley triumph was top of the agenda.
She added: “We want to win as many trophies as we can but we’ll enjoy this first — we’re not thinking about the league.
“We’ve got to take it one game at a time, like we have done recently.”
Skinner vows United will be back
Marc Skinner is adamant United are desperate to continue challenging for trophies after losing their first major final.
The Red Devils had the ball in the net after just 19 seconds but Leah Galton’s effort was flagged for offside against Ella Toone.
The pressure continued during an impressive first half with Galton, Alessia Russo and Millie Turner going close.
And while Chelsea eventually punished the final rookies, Skinner believes his side showed they belong on the big stage.
The United boss, 40, said: “We started well and looked like the team that had been in many finals.
“It’s a different type of game in a final and you have to play with more maturity. We want to be where they were — that’s what we’ll strive for.
“I’m not going to stop and this team’s not going to. If anyone thinks we’re going away, we’re not.
“We’ve given a really good account of ourselves and we’ll be back, no doubt about that.
“We know how special our club is and how we need to be synonymous with success.”
United, who have played one more game than Chelsea, face difficult clashes with Manchester City and Liverpool in their final two WSL fixtures.
After tackling the Hammers, the Blues take on Arsenal and Reading.
