Blue is the colour but family is the name of the game at Chelsea

Emma Hayes has revealed how Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have made Chelsea feel like one big family.

While the men’s side have struggled since the new owners took control of the club last summer, Hayes has seen her women’s team go from strength to strength.

The reigning Women’s Super League champions are top of the table and have a Continental Cup semi-final at West Ham to tackle tonight.

They are also still in the FA Cup and Champions League, with Hayes confident of adding more silverware to an already bulging trophy cabinet.

And the London-born head coach is loving life under the new regime. She said: “The other day I had lunch with Graham [Potter] and Todd and Behdad, it’s a family here.

“It’s more of a family here than it’s ever been.

“As a football club, I think we have to be excited about the new era and I know from our owners they’re doing their best in a really short space of time to help us go to the next place.

“We had a great lunch the other day, all four of us. It was a really warm, lovely environment and a lovely lunch.”

The spotlight remains firmly on Potter after a number of big-money January additions bolstered his star-studded squad.

Ironically, his stuttering side also face West Ham next — on Saturday lunchtime at the London Stadium.

And Hayes, 46, believes her opposite number will make the most of the talent at his disposal to get Chelsea further up the Premier League table.

She added: “Coaches always want extra players, so it doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. It will make it competitive.

“There are of course challenges to managing that but Graham can do it.”
