Brighton vs Southampton predictions: Saints can play part in entertaining clash

– Southampton have suffered eight defeats in their last 10 league games
– Both teams have scored in nine of the last 11 league meetings
– Recommended bet: Brighton to win and both teams to score

Brighton are expected to get the better of already-relegated Southampton but Saints can play their part at the Amex.

Southampton will be plying their trade in the Championship next season after last week’s 2-0 defeat to Fulham condemned them to the drop.

However, they will be hoping to keep things respectable in their remaining two games this season, starting against Brighton.

The Seagulls are still fighting for a European spot but were 4-1 losers away to Newcastle on Thursday so need to bounce back.

Team news

Brighton have a number of injury problems with Solly March, Adam Lallana, Adam Webster, Jakub Moder, Jeremy Sarmiento, Tariq Lamptey all absent.

Robert Sanchez has fallen out of favour and is not expected not to feature but Levi Colwill should return, while Joel Veltman is a doubt.

For Southampton, Romain Perraud, Armel Bella-Kotchap, Mohamed Salisu and Juan Larios are expected to miss out through injury.

Che Adams is a doubt but Valentino Livramento is nearing a return from injury and may feature.

Prediction

Southampton have had a disappointing season but Ruben Selles will not want them to go down with a whimper in their final two games.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has a whole host of players unavailable through injury and the Seagulls are particularly light in defence, with Moises Caicedo having to fill in at right-back at Newcastle last time out.

Brighton have been involved in a number of high-scoring matches recently, their last six games have seen 25 goals and they could be a part of another here.

Despite their injury issues, Brighton should have enough class to get the victory over Saints, who can put up a fight on their way to defeat.

The win can help solidify the claims of De Zerbi’s men for a much-coveted Europa League place next season.
