– Recommended bet: Both teams to score
Burnley have won 10 Championship games in a row and have put together a seven point gap between them and Sheffield United at the top of the table as a result.
Vincent Kompany’s side have lost just two league games all season, although one of those defeats came against their opponents here, Watford.
The Hornets have wobbled recently in the play-off race, taking three points from the last 12 available as their injury list continues to be a thorn in their side.
Slaven Bilic’s men will be desperate to turn that run around and stop the relentless momentum of the Clarets, who look to be on a one way ticket to the Premier League.
Team news
Watford have battled with injury issues throughout this season and their current squad is no different.
Kortney Hause, Craig Cathcart, Francisco Sierralta and Joao Ferreira are all missing defensively for the Hornets, while they will also be without Tom Dele-Bashiru, Dan Gosling and Edo Kayembe in midfield.
By contrast, Burnley have a relatively empty treatment room, with Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Benson Manuel and Jay Rodriguez their only absentees.
Some of both sides’ January signings could feature, with strikers Michael Obafemi and Britt Assombalonga vying for their places in the starting lineups of the hosts and away side respectively.
The stats
Watford have failed to keep a clean sheet in six of their last eight Championship games.
Burnley have only failed to score in one of their 30 league matches this season, the best record in the second tier, while they are unbeaten in their 16 home league games in the 2022-23 campaign.
Both teams have scored in 11 of the Clarets’ 18 matches at Turf Moor in all competitions.
Prediction
Burnley are undoubtedly the form team in the EFL at the moment and it is not hard to make the case for them winning the Championship title this season.
However, Watford are one of just two sides to beat them and their attacking talents should not be underestimated.
Both teams have scored in three of the Hornets’ last four matches and Burnley have found the net in 29 of their 30 league games, so the percentage call is that the hosts will score.
The likes of Joao Pedro, Ismaila Sarr and Matheus Martins are potent attacking options for the Hornets however and they could trouble the hosts more than some other teams in the second tier have managed this season.
