Saturday’s FA Cup action threatened giant killings but Sunday saw Boreham Wood and Nottingham Forest deliver — dumping out Bournemouth and Leicester respectively.
On Saturday, it took Chelsea and West Ham until extra time to overcome Plymouth Argyle and Kidderminster Harriers as Premier League quality eventually told.
But the same could not be said today as Boreham Wood, the lowest-ranked side left in the competition, became the first non-league side to reach the fifth round since Sutton United and Lincoln in 2017.
Elsewhere, holders Leicester were sent packing by rivals Nottingham Forest. Here’s everything you need to know from a dramatic day in the FA Cup.
Bournemouth 0-1 Boreham Wood
National League Boreham Wood achieved the upset of the round by defeating Championship outfit Bournemouth 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium.
Captain Mark Ricketts, 37, saw his edge-of-the-box effort deflect in off the woodwork past Cherries goalkeeper Freddie Woodman just before half time.
Rickets had not played since January 11 due to injury and did not train on Friday to avoid further complications.
It was a nervy second half for the Wood, who had just 18% possession in the tie, as they saw off Scott Parker’s side to set up a fifth-round clash with Frank Lampard’s Everton at Goodison Park.
Nottingham Forest 4-1 Leicester
Nottingham Forest knocked out holders Leicester in emphatic fashion, defeating their East Midlands rivals 4-1 at the City Ground.
Steve Cooper’s side stunned the Foxes by scoring twice in a minute through Philip Zinckernagel and Brennan Johnson.
Reds captain Joe Worrall extended the hosts’ lead just after the half-hour mark with a header, prompting unsavoury scenes from a Leicester fan in the aftermath.
Kelechi Iheanacho pulled a goal back for Brendan Rodgers’ side before half time but Djed Spence ensured Forest’s place in the fifth round with a fourth goal just after an hour.
Forest’s reward is a home time against fellow Championship side Huddersfield in round five.
Liverpool 3-1 Cardiff
Liverpool eased into the fifth round with a 3-1 win over Championship strugglers Cardiff at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s side went ahead just after the interval via the in-form Diogo Jota.
New signing Luis Diaz made an instant impact by providing an assist for the Reds’ second, setting up Takumi Minamino 10 minutes after coming on.
Harvey Elliott rounded the victory off for Klopp’s side with a goal on his first appearance since the horrific ankle injury he suffered in September.
Cardiff pulled a goal back through Rubin Colwill with 10 minutes remaining, but it was too late for a comeback with Liverpool advancing to a fifth-round home tie with Norwich.
