Fantasy Premier League GW15 reaction: Salah shines but Cancelo crumbles

Another thrilling round of Premier League fixtures was filled with late drama and goals galore.

Arsenal reclaimed top spot in the table after defeating Chelsea and Liverpool recorded their first top-flight away win of the season at Tottenham.

Elsewhere, Leeds mounted a comeback in a seven-goal thriller against Bournemouth and Crystal Palace sealed a last-gasp win at West Ham.

We look at fantasy football’s best and worst performers across the weekend’s action.

Gameweek 15 top performers

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

Although Liverpool were not at their best, the Reds managed to come away from North London with all three points courtesy of a Mohamed Salah brace.

His 15-point return is his highest tally of the season and his involvement on the counter-attack was crucial for Jurgen Klopp’s men to see out a nervy ending against Spurs.

With managerless Southampton the Merseysiders’ final league opponent before the World Cup, Salah is certainly a safe bet for your free transfer heading into Gameweek 16.

Marcus Tavernier (Bournemouth)

Although Bournemouth fell the wrong side of an entertaining 4-3 scoreline at Elland Road, Marcus Tavernier was the star of the show with a goal and two assists.

At just £4.9million, the midfielder is proving to be a bargain buy having tallied 21 points in his last two starts for the Cherries.

The South Coast outfit host Everton in GW16 and Tavernier is likely to be in the action once again as his side look to put some distance between themselves and the relegation places.

Gabriel (Arsenal)

Arsenal show no sign of letting up at the summit and their performance at Chelsea was yet another reason to suggest that they are genuine title challengers.

Centre-back Gabriel was impressive alongside William Saliba and the Brazilian’s goal was the difference as the Gunners left Stamford Bridge with the spoils.

His 16-point return makes Gabriel the weekend’s joint-highest fantasy scorer and the North Londoners’ trip to Wolves on Saturday provides another opportunity for him to prove his worth under Mikel Arteta.

Gameweek 15 worst performers

Joao Cancelo (Manchester City)

Manchester City were let off the hook with a last-minute penalty in the 2-1 win over Fulham on Saturday, but Joao Cancelo’s red card will have infuriated fantasy fans.

His shove on Harry Wilson resulted in the Cottagers equalising from the penalty spot and the Portuguese defender ended up with -2 points.

For those short of a free transfer, Cancelo will be available for next weekend’s action as his suspension will be served during City’s Carabao Cup tie against Chelsea on Wednesday.

Nelson Semedo (Wolves)

Although the appointment of Julen Lopetegui marks a new chapter for Wolves, their performance against Brighton on Saturday was the same old story.

The Midlands side found themselves 2-1 up but Nelson Semedo’s dismissal for a cynical foul tipped the game in favour of the Seagulls, who went on to run out 3-2 winners at Molineux.

Semedo will available against Arsenal, but if you have a free transfer banked, it may be time to consider other options ahead of next weekend’s action.

Ivan Perisic (Tottenham)

It was an unfortunate evening for Ivan Perisic who had the opportunity to score some good points starting in a more attacking position against Liverpool.

The Croatian wing-back hit the woodwork twice during the clash and could not rescue a draw for his side, earning him just one fantasy point.

Assists have been a strong feature of Perisic’s game this season, but goals have been scarce for the veteran — he will get one last opportunity to score before the World Cup as Spurs welcome Leeds in GW16.
