Fantasy Premier League GW6 reaction: Ivan sets the Tone as Trent trips up

Gameweek 6 served up a feast in the Premier League with 32 goals scored across 10 games.

Alexis Mac Allister bagged a brace and 14 points as Brighton brushed aside a struggling Leicester, with team-mate Leandro Trossard also netting a handy 12-point haul.

Elsewhere, the 78.1% of players who own Gabriel Jesus were left disappointed with his one-point return as Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the season against Manchester United.

With the return of European competitions this week, managers will have to think long and hard about any changes they wish to make to their team.

Ahead of Gameweek 7, we take a look at last weekend’s three top-performing players and three stars who did not live up to expectations.

Gameweek 6 top performers

Ivan Toney (Brentford)

Brentford look a safe bet to stay up this season if you analyse their recent performances — with star striker Ivan Toney taking his own impressive form to a new level in GW6.

Available as a cheaper alternative to the likes of Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, Toney was selected by 18% of players for the Bees’ clash with Leeds.

And the faith that select few showed in the Englishman was repaid as he bagged a hat trick, returning 17 points — or 34 points for those brave enough to captain the 26-year-old.

With a trip to St Mary’s to face Southampton in GW7, Toney is a solid proposition to deliver another heavy load of points for your fantasy team.

Nick Pope (Newcastle)

With a place in England’s World Cup squad on the line, Nick Pope is doing all the right things for his club as Newcastle continue to impress in the Premier League.

Although the Magpies were held to a draw by Crystal Palace at the weekend, Pope played a key part in helping Eddie Howe’s side keep their third clean sheet of the season.

Surprisingly, less than 10% of players selected Pope for GW6, but those that did secured a juicy 12 points from their custodian.

Next up for Newcastle is a trip to London to face West Ham, a fixture labelled as difficult by expert fantasy players.

Nonetheless, Pope could be a risk worth taking for those needing differentials to gain ground on rival fantasy sides.

Marcus Rashford (Manchester United)

Available at just £6.5million, Marcus Rashford is always a gamble considering his poor form over the last two seasons.

Yet for the 12.3% of players who rolled the dice on the 24-year-old this weekend, there can be no complaints about the whopping 18-point return from the England international.

Rashford emerges as the GW6 top scorer and his brace against Arsenal could be the boost he needs to recapture the exceptional form he showcased early in his United career.

Erik ten Hag’s side travel to Selhurst Park in GW7 and if Rashford is rested for the Europa League clash against Real Sociedad, he will be fresh for the tough task against Crystal Palace.

Gameweek 6 worst performers

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

Liverpool have lost a lot of ground in the title race. Despite only being six games into the season, the Reds already trail leaders Arsenal by six points.

One player who is yet to find his best form in the new campaign is Trent Alexander-Arnold, who returned just one point in the 1-1 draw against local rivals Everton.

At a premium price of £7.5m and with nearly 50% of players selecting the full-back, it might be time to reconsider his value to your fantasy team.

Liverpool are at home to Wolves in GW7, but there is no guarantee of victory for Jurgen Klopp’s side who simply cannot afford to drop anymore points this early in the season.

Heung-Min Son (Tottenham)

Six games into the 2022-23 campaign and Heung-Min Son is yet to score a goal, earning him a place as one of the gameweek’s worst performers.

For a player that costs an eye-watering £11.7m, there is an expectation that Son will return a strong total every weekend — but his highest tally so far is just five points.

With Richarlison performing to a higher level than the South Korean, Son finds himself at the risk of being dropped for upcoming games, especially with Champions League football returning to North London.

Spurs travel to Manchester City for GW7, which will prove a dilemma for the forward’s owners. His record at the Etihad is stellar, but his form suggests he may struggle to make an impact in the game.

Reece James (Chelsea)

Another full-back featuring as a poor performer is Chelsea starboy Reece James.

The West London side escaped with all three points after a questionable ruling out of West Ham’s late equaliser, with James making the error that led to the initial goal.

At £6.0m, James is still a must-have for your team, though Chelsea’s current form suggests that they may struggle more than anticipated in the months leading up to the World Cup.

Another London derby is on the horizon as Fulham host the blues in GW7 and with James signing a new long-term contract this week, he looks to have a solid chance of bouncing back to form.
