Teenage tennis sensation Emma Raducanu had the football world talking when she was pictured wearing a Tottenham shirt while training in Stuttgart.
The 2021 US Open winner, raised in South East London, took to Instagram to show off her Spurs shirt re-asserting her support for Antonio Conte’s men.
When asked about her choice of club, the world No12 explained: “My whole team basically are big Spurs fans and I feel like they’re egging me on.
“They’re desperately trying to get me behind them. I don’t necessarily follow football so much, but I feel like now because of them I’m feeling some sort of connection.
“I loved following the Euros last year and watching Harry Kane, who’s obviously the England captain, and Son [Heung-Min], I’m a big fan of him as well. So yeah, I like to dabble.”
We take a look at five other celebrity football fans that are likely to raise some eyebrows.
Lana Del Rey — Liverpool
American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey formed her affiliation with Liverpool when her manager introduced her to the club.
She attended a match at Anfield when they hosted Spurs in 2013 and expressed her love for the locals and former Reds hero Luis Suarez.
The New York City native said: “I love watching Luis Suarez play. The people in Liverpool are so friendly and the stadium’s really impressive.”
The 36-year-old also recorded an a capella version of the famous You’ll Never Walk Alone anthem sung by the Liverpool faithful on matchdays for a documentary released in 2020.
Will Ferrell — Chelsea
American actor, comedian, producer and writer Will Ferrell is probably one of the biggest names to don a Chelsea shirt.
How he became a Blue is unknown but his support for the club dates as far back as 2009 and he has expressed his support for the club publicly on numerous occasions.
Ferrell was named as an honorary captain in the side’s pre-season match against Inter Milan in 2009, while also attending their summer tour of the United States in 2012 and appearing at their clash against Arsenal in 2017.
His involvement in the game has gone beyond supporting the West Londoners as he has been part-owner of MLS club Los Angeles FC since 2016.
Anthony Joshua — Watford
Two-time former unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua revealed on Twitter in 2015 that he is a Watford fan.
The British boxing icon grew up on the Meriden Estate just north of the town centre and not far from Vicarage Road.
Joshua has spoken about the beautiful game, previously revealing that he enjoyed watching Real Madrid when his favourite player Cristiano Ronaldo played for Los Blancos at the height of his career.
His friendship with club legend and ex-captain Troy Deeney has further cemented his ties with the Hornets.
Sylvester Stallone — Everton
Hollywood action man Sylvester Stallone, famous for his roles as Rocky Balboa and John Rambo, became an Evertonian in 2007.
His support of the Toffees came from his friendship with former club director Robert Earl, who invited him to watch the Merseysiders play Reading in 2007.
Stallone has since admitted that he wishes he had bought the club there and then.
He said: “If I knew what I know now I would’ve snapped it up. That was when football clubs were affordable but now it’s a billionaire’s game.”
In 2015, Stallone used his silver screen experience to record a half-time feature for fans.
Mike Tyson — Wolves
Another club who can count on heavyweight support are Wolves thanks to surprise links to Mike Tyson.
The American revealed his passion for the West Midlands club in 2013 following former manager Dean Saunders’ honest comments on the team’s fall from grace.
Saunders remarked that the team went from beating everyone to beating nobody three years later and compared their plight to Iron Mike’s own career.
In reaction, Tyson stated: “He’s right. I went from the best in the world to a very bad place.
“I don’t know that much about football but it sounds like Wolverhampton have a manager who can turn the team around. When I’m over in England I would like to see them in action.”
