Eintracht Frankfurt have reached their first European final since 1980 and will be looking for a hero on the big stage.
The German outfit stunned Barcelona and West Ham to reach tonight’s Europa League showpiece and will be hoping to win continental silverware for just the second time in their history.
Ahead of their clash with Rangers, we take a look at five players who could decide the final in Frankfurt’s favour.
Filip Kostic
Arguably Frankfurt’s player of the season, Filip Kostic will certainly need to perform at his best if the Bundesliga side are to be victorious.
The Serbian wing-back, 29, has the most goal involvements of any Frankfurt player in all competitions this season and is the leading assist provider in the Europa League this term.
He is a crucial player in Oliver Glasner’s 3-4-3 system and could well prove to have a decisive say in the final.
Daichi Kamada
Japan international Daichi Kamada is Frankfurt’s top scorer in the Europa League this season with five goals — and he will be hoping to add to that tally against Rangers.
In fact, he has more in European competition than in the Bundesliga having only mustered four league strikes this term.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder has saved his best performances for the continental stage, including the winner in the first leg of the semi-final victory over West Ham.
Djibril Sow
Frankfurt’s chances do not just rest on the fate of their goalscorers.
Djibril Sow will be key to winning the midfield battle with his positional intelligence and knack for interceptions — he has regained possession a commendable 4.22 times per 90 minutes across the team’s European campaign.
However, the 25-year-old is no stranger to contributing at the sharp end of the pitch either, managing three goals and five assists in all competitions this term.
Ansgar Knauff
Ansgar Knauff only arrived on loan from Borussia Dortmund in January — but has managed to make quite an impact in his short time at the club.
He may have only scored three times in all competitions but his two Europa League efforts were crucial strikes.
The young German, 20, netted the opener in the first leg against Barcelona and scored inside the opening minute against West Ham in London.
Another big goal against Rangers certainly would not go amiss.
Rafael Borre
Rafael Borre is the only Frankfurt player to have hit double figures across all competitions, registering 11 times.
The 26-year-old also scored the club’s last Europa League effort — the winner in the 1-0 second-leg victory over West Ham.
Attack will be the order of the day in Seville according to boss Glasner, so the forward could have a big part to play once again.
Speaking ahead of tonight’s match, he said: “Our approach is clear. We want to cause problems for defences.
“Our strategy is to get forward and constantly keep them busy — it must involve causing problems to the opposition defence.”
With such a front-footed approach, do not be surprised to see Borre pop up with another match-winning strike in the final.
