The Premier League has witnessed some of the greatest footballers in the world since its debut but many forget to credit the legendary goalkeepers to have graced the competition.

5. Peter Schmeichel
Peter Schmeichel captained Manchester United as they won the Champions League final in 1999 to complete a historic Treble.
Signed for £505,000 in 1991 — a deal legendary boss Alex Ferguson described as “the bargain of the century” — the Great Dane won five FA Premier League titles, three FA Cups and League Cup at Old Trafford as well as his European triumph.
Schmeichel racked up 310 Premier League appearances including his time at Manchester City and Aston Villa, keeping 128 clean sheets.
And son Kasper is keeping up the family name, helping Leicester win the title in 2016.
4. David de Gea
Manchester United made David de Gea the most expensive Premier League goalkeeper at the time after landing him for £18.9 million in 2011.
The Spaniard has proved his worth over the last decade and overtook Schmeichel to reach tenth in the all-time clean sheet rankings for the English top-flight in February 2022.
His time in Manchester has come as the club struggles to return to the glory days but De Gea has still scooped one Premier League title as well as an FA CUp, League Cup and Europa League.
And De Gea has plenty of time to add more trophies to his cabinet as the only active player on this list.
3. Edwin Van Der Sar
Another Red Devil, Edwin Van Der Sar was 35 by the time he arrived at Old Trafford but did not let age get in the way.
The ex-Fulham, Ajax and Juventus stopper went on to win 10 major trophies with United, including four Premier League titles and the Champions League.
Van der Sar became the oldest player to play in a Champions League final aged 41 before bowing out after a 3-1 defeat to Barcelona in the showpiece.
He kept 132 clean sheets in 313 Premier League games, including his time at Fulham, and is also United’s oldest player of the post-war era.
The Dutchman is currently working as a chief executive at Ajax and has not ruled taking out a backroom role at Old Trafford in the future.
2. David Seaman
David Seaman will forever be an Arsenal legend but it could have been a completely different story as he has admitted he couldha’ve joined Manchester United instead.
Given the choice of leaving QPR for Old Trafford or Highbury in 1990, the England icon revealed on his Seaman Says podcast that former Hoops coach Ray Wilkins who advised him to stay in London.
He said: “He said to me, ‘if you go to Man United, you won’t win trophies straight away, but you will later because they’re a massive club’.
“He said, ‘if you go to Arsenal now you’ll win trophies straight away’.”
Wilkins’ prediction rang true as Seaman helped the club to win three league titles, four FA Cups and the League Cup.
Seaman is fourth in the all-time rankings with 141 clean sheets and also managed four assists before retiring and helping the younger generation by returning to his old stomping ground to train the likes of Aaron Ramsdale.
1. Petr Cech
Petr Cech is the only keeper ever to make 200 Premier League clean sheets and won plenty of trophies along the way.
The titles speak for themselves with four Premier League trophies, two of which were won after the skull fracture, four FA Cups, three League Cups, one Europa League and a Champions League.
Cech holds the joint record for having won the most Golden Glove awards alongside Joe Hart after scooping three with Chelsea and in 2016 with Arsenal.
The Czech icon deservedly tops this list despite some illustrious competition and continues to make an impact as part of Thomas Tuchel’s backroom team.
