It is a debate that has raged up and down the country for decades — who are the most successful club in English football?
LiveScore looks at the five Premier League sides with the most major trophies.
5. Manchester City (28 trophies)
Adding to their cabinet twice last year, Manchester City have accumulated 28 major trophies since being formed in 1894.
The Citizens have proved themselves a force to be reckoned with — especially in the 21st century — by winning the English top flight seven times and boast a superstar squad who could add many more in the years to come.
As well as their league triumphs, City have won six FA Cups, eight League Cups and six Charity Shields.
They also lifted the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1970 but they are still chasing an elusive Champions League victory having been beaten by Chelsea in their only final appearance in 2021.
4. Chelsea (32 trophies)
Chelsea added the Club World Cup to their honours board early in 2022 and narrowly missed out on a February double after losing to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.
The Blues scooped their first silverware in the mid-50s when they won the First Division and Charity Shield but, like City, their trophy cabinet has come on leaps and bounds since the turn of the century.
Stamford Bridge’s collection includes two Champions League titles, two Europa Leagues, eight FA Cups, five League Cups and six top-flight titles — five of which came in the Premier League era.
3. Arsenal (47 trophies)
Arsenal have racked up an impressive haul over the years and enjoy a particular pedigree as the FA Cup’s most successful side ever with 14 wins.
They have also won 13 league titles and the Charity Shield 16 times, including one shared with bitter rivals Tottenham.
The North London side love an English trophy but struggle abroad with just two victories in European competition — the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1970 and Cup Winners’ Cup in 1994.
1= Manchester United (66 trophies)
Manchester United won their first league title in 1908 and there have been plenty to follow since.
One of English football’s traditional powerhouses, it took a Scot in Alex Ferguson to fire them to an unprecedented period of success in the 90s and 2000s.
With three European Cups, 20 top-flight titles and 12 FA Cup triumphs lining the walls of Old Trafford, United fans have had plenty to celebrate down the years but the good times have stopped rolling recently.
And to make things worse, their North West rivals Liverpool recently joined them on 66 trophies after falling behind during Fergie’s glittering reign.
1= Liverpool (66 trophies)
Liverpool’s 2022 Carabao Cup final win saw them join their old foes at the top of the pile and the Reds boast a squad who can get them out in front over the coming years.
Liverpool have won 19 league titles but just one since the rebrand in 1992 as Jurgen Klopp finally ended years of hurt in 2020.
Boasting six European Cups, the Anfield outfit are definitely English football’s most successful club on the continent and will hope to edge back in front of United in the domestic standings.
