In Focus: The Premier League stars who shone on Matchday 10

There was not a single draw in the nine Premier League games played on a pulsating weekend of action.

Arsenal’s triumph over Liverpool was the highlight, while Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea all won as the table begins to take shape.

Bournemouth, Newcastle and Crystal Palace also picked up important victories and LiveScore have picked out five standout performers from Matchday 10 so far as Nottingham Forest prepare to host Aston Villa tonight.

Ryan Christie

Perhaps it was inevitable that Ryan Christie’s first Premier League goal would come against his old Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

The midfielder netted 11 times in 42 appearances under the Northern Irishman at Celtic and was a key figure in Bournemouth’s 2-1 win over Leicester.

Christie, 27, had already had two efforts saved by Danny Ward before he netted the winner.

The Scot was alert to prod the ball home from inside the box, complete the Cherries comeback and add more weight to the growing clamour for Gary O’Neil to be given the job permanently.

And throughout the game, his pressing and harrying caused all sorts of problems for the Foxes on the South Coast.

Bruno Guimaraes

As a £40million signing for Newcastle last January, Bruno Guimaraes is hardly an unknown quantity.

But displays like his in the 5-1 thrashing of Brentford mean fans all over the country are starting to realise just how good he is.

He headed the Magpies into the lead before smashing in a strike to restore their two-goal lead in the second half in an all-action display.

Only Kieran Trippier had more touches, while Guimaraes won possession on more occasions than every player apart from centre-back Sven Botman.

Boss Eddie Howe said: “He’s top quality in every aspect — his personality, his performances on the pitch. I thought he was outstanding today.”

Harry Kane

Not only did Harry Kane net the winner for Tottenham against Brighton, but he reminded us all that footballers are humans too.

It has been an incredibly tough week for Spurs after the sudden passing of fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone at the age of 61 on Thursday.

Kane was close to tears at both full-time and during his post-match interview as he talked about a “difficult” week.

His goal was a classic striker’s finish as he stooped to flick Heung-Min Son’s shot over the diving Robert Sanchez.

Kane has eight goals in eight Premier League games to start the campaign which is great news for England ahead of next month’s World Cup.

Eberechi Eze

There are few better players to watch in the Premier League than Eberechi Eze at full flow.

And the 24-year-old looks set to make a big impact on the top flight this term after moving into a midfield three, as shown by his display in Crystal Palace’s 2-1 win over Leeds.

He played a neat one-two with Wilfried Zaha before smashing home the winner, while he was ranked second for most touches and accurate passes at Selhurst Park.

Boss Patrick Vieira said: “There’s still much more to come from Ebs. I think he used to play a little bit on the left-hand side and at the moment he is playing more centrally.

“He just needs to find the right position, to be a little bit more high on the field, because he has the ability to score goals and to create chances, so it was a good performance from him and he’s getting better and better.”

Gabriel Martinelli

It took 58 seconds for Gabriel Martinelli to signal his intentions yesterday and put Arsenal on their way to a 3-2 win over Liverpool.

The young Brazilian, 21, is a player in top form and netted the opener to make it five goals and five assists in his past 14 league games.

Boss Mikel Arteta was full of praise, he said: “He’s a great player. He had an outstanding performance against a top defender and a top team and he made a difference in the game as well as the other players.

“That’s the next level, to step up in these games and make things happen to win it.

“What is clear is his hunger, his determination and his love for this game. You don’t know where he’s going to reach because he’s always asking and willing for more.”
