Juventus vs Sevilla predictions: Six-time Europa winners could frustrate Juve

– There have been under 2.5 goals in 13 of Juventus’s last 16 league and cup games
– Sevilla have won five of their last six matches in all competitions
– Recommended bet: Tie or Sevilla Double Chance

Sevilla have had a difficult campaign in LaLiga but they seem to be peaking at the right time in their favourite competition, the Europa League.

The six-time winners beat trophy favourites Manchester United 5-2 on aggregate in the quarter-finals, having trailed 2-0 going into the final ten minutes of the first leg at Old Trafford, and they look dangerous underdogs for their semi-final trip to Juventus.

The Italians edged past Arsenal’s conquerors Sporting 2-1 on aggregate in the last eight but have won only three of their last ten games and face a Sevilla side bidding to enhance their glorious record in this competition.

Team news

Juventus right-back Mattia De Sciglio is out for the season so veteran Juan Cuadrado is likely to deputise again.

Paul Pogba is pushing for a start in midfield after returning from a long injury layoff and Dusan Vlahovic should lead the line after scoring in his last two Serie A appearances.

Sevilla hope to welcome back defender Tanguy Nianzou although Joan Jordan and Marcao are unlikely to feature in Turin.

The stats

There have been under 2.5 goals in 13 of Juventus’s last 16 games in all competitions.

Six of Juve’s ten home victories in 2023 have been by a 1-0 scoreline.

Four of the Turin giants’ last five defeats have also been by a 1-0 margin.

Sevilla have won five of their last six matches in all competitions.

Sevilla have scored at least twice in seven of their last nine fixtures.

Both teams have scored in only one of Sevilla’s last nine Europa League ties.

Prediction

Juventus snapped a run of just one win in eight matches with back-to-back Serie A victories over Lecce and Atalanta but their shortage of goals makes them vulnerable favourites against Sevilla.

There is plenty of flair in the Juve squad with Vlahovic and Angel Di Maria in attack and Pogba and Federico Chiesa fit again but coach Massimiliano Allegri tends to favour a more pragmatic style of football.

Sevilla’s form has picked up impressively since coach Jose Luis Mendilibar replaced Jorge Sampaoli in March and their 3-0 second-leg win over Manchester United was a morale-boosting result.

Sevilla arrive in Turin on a run of five wins in six in all competitions and they are streetwise enough to at least avoid defeat in the semi-final first leg, boosting their chances of adding to their Europa League triumphs of 2006, 2007, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2020.
