Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo, the Dutch club have announced.
In a statement on the club website, PSV said: “PSV and LFC [Liverpool] have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo.
“The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England imminently where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer.
“Both clubs are not making any announcements about the transfer fee. ‘But this is a record transfer for PSV,’ said general manager Marcel Brands.”
Gakpo had an outstanding World Cup campaign in Qatar, where he scored three goals in five appearances for the Netherlands before elimination to eventual winners, Argentina.
This season has seen Liverpool lose key attackers Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota to long-term injuries.
Gakpo would certainly bolster Jurgen Klopp’s forward options, joining a current attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho.
Should the deal be completed, Gakpo could be in line for a Liverpool debut on January 2 when they visit Brentford.
