Palace extensions
Crystal Palace have extended the contract of four players until the summer of 2023.
Jordan Ayew, Nathaniel Clyne, James McArthur and James Tomkins have all tied their future to the Selhurst Park club.
The quartet have made a combined 677 appearances for Palace and chairman Steve Parish was delighted with the business done.
The Eagles chief said: “It remains of pivotal importance to get the right balance of youth and experience in any Premier League squad.
“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to ensure that these long-standing and experienced players in Jordan, Nathaniel, James and James remain with us for the upcoming campaign.
“Each of them played an enormous role in the progress we’ve all enjoyed in the last year, and we very much expect similar contributions for the season ahead.”
Palace also confirmed that they are in talks with Cheikhou Kouyate, who sees his deal run out at the end of the month.
Alonso still eyeing Spanish move
Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso has reiterated his desire to play football in his native Spain again.
The 31-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
He last played in Spanish football back in the 2009-10 campaign, appearing 28 times for Real Madrid Castilla and once for the first team.
Though the eight-cap international is hoping for a swansong at the Camp Nou, he conceded it may not be possible.
He said: “I have one more year on my contract, but in the end it does not depend entirely on me.
“It is clear that the desire to one day play in Spain is there.”
The Blues have already lost centre-back Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid on a free transfer with fellow defenders Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta also linked with a Barca switch.
Managerial changes
Charlton have appointed Swindon boss Ben Garner as their new manager as they look to earn promotion from League One next term.
There has been plenty of movement in the lower leagues this off-season already and the Addicks have finally confirmed Garner, 42, as their new boss.
Garner guided Swindon to the League Two play-offs last term and has jumped at the chance to manage in a higher league.
“It feels fantastic to be here. I’m really pleased and can’t wait to get going,” Garner said.
“Charlton is a massive football club, both in terms of history and tradition and just as importantly in terms of potential and scope looking forwards.”
Elsewhere, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has opted to stay at Burton despite some interest from Barnsley.
The ex-Chelsea star said: “It’s always flattering to be approached by other clubs and to be offered new opportunities, but I have always been very happy at Burton Albion, and grateful for the Chairman’s support.”
