Salah wins PFA Player of the Year

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been named PFA Player of the Year for the second time in his career.

The Egyptian ace pipped Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to the award after a fabulous individual campaign which saw him finish joint-top scorer in the Premier League with 23 goals, as well as registering a league-high 13 assists.

Upon winning the prize, Salah said: “It’s a great honour to win a trophy, individual or collective and this one is big, so I’m very happy and very proud of that.

“This one is a really good one to win, especially because it’s voted by players. It shows you that you’ve worked really hard and you get what you worked for.

“I have my room with trophies in a cabinet and I made sure that I had another space for one more. I always keep space and just try to imagine that the trophies are going to come.”

As well as De Bruyne, the Reds star beat off team-mates Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane to the award, with Tottenham forward Harry Kane and Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo also nominated.

Elsewhere, Red Devils star Ronaldo, 37, spearheaded the PFA Team of the Year after an impressive first campaign back at Old Trafford.

Despite his side’s struggles, the Portuguese icon weighed in with 18 league goals and pipped Spurs striker Kane to the sole centre forward berth in the XI.

Antonio Rudiger was the only other non-Liverpool or City player to feature, with the German defender having shone once again for Chelsea — though he completed a free transfer to Real Madrid last week.
