Claudio wishes Watford well

Claudio Ranieri believes Watford can still beat the drop.

The Italian was axed by the Hornets yesterday after overseeing 10 defeats in 13 Premier League games following his appointment last October.

But Ranieri, who is expected to be succeeded by Roy Hodgson, has wished his former side well as they bid to remain in the top flight.

He said: “I can only say good luck to everybody. To Watford, the fans, the board, everyone.

“I believe that with the new players, Watford can be safe. I wish them all the best.”

Since the January transfer window opened for business, the relegation-haunted Hornets have signed Hassane Kamara from Nice, Samir from Udinese and Edo Kayembe from Eupen.

They have also completed a deal for Maduka Okoye but the Nigeria keeper has been loaned back to Sparta Rotterdam for the rest of the season.

Martial moves on

Manchester United ace Anthony Martial will spend the rest of the season on loan at Sevilla, subject to a medical.

The Frenchman, 26, has been desperate to get away from Old Trafford after being little more than a bit-part player this term.

And LaLiga outfit Sevilla have finally landed their man after tracking him for a number of months.

Martial, who joined United from Monaco for £36million in September 2015, is believed to have agreed a pay cut to smooth his departure.
