Seagulls swoop for Enciso

Brighton have announced the capture of Paraguayan striker Julio Enciso.

The 18-year-old South American has signed a four-year deal at the Amex and will link straight up with the Seagulls’ first-team squad in pre-season.

It is thought the South Coast club have paid around £9.5million for Ensico, who is already a full international and regarded in his home nation as their most exciting prospect in a generation.

Boss Graham Potter said: “Julio is an exciting young talent. He has had a great start to his career in Paraguay, as well as being a regular in the national squad.

“He’s a young guy who is moving away from his home country for the first time, so we will help him to adapt to new surroundings and settle here in Brighton and Hove.”

Young Lions to host Germany

England’s Under-21s will face Germany at Bramall Lane on September 27.

The fixture, which comes four days after an away trip to Italy, will play a key part in Lee Carsley’s preparations for the 2023 European Under-21 Championship.

Carsley said: “England vs Germany is always a fixture to look forward to for any of our age groups and to be playing this latest chapter at a venue as historic as Bramall Lane will make this one all the more special.”

Germany are the reigning European champions having lifted the trophy two years ago when England disappointingly exited in the group stage.

Bundesliga fixtures announced

German champions Bayern Munich will start their 2022-23 Bundesliga campaign with a trip to Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt on August 5.

The Bavarians made it 10 titles in a row last term when finishing eight points ahead of nearest pursuers Borussia Dortmund, who kick off the new season at home to Bayer Leverkusen a day later.

Prior to the big kick-off, Julian Nagelsmann’s men will meet DFB-Pokal winners RB Leipzig in the German Supercup on July 30 at the Red Bull Arena.
