Blues chairman stands down
Chelsea have confirmed chairman Bruce Buck will stand down at the end of this month, with new co-owner Todd Boehly reportedly set to replace him.
American Buck, 76, has overseen a hugely successful two decades at the club since assisting Roman Abramovich’s takeover in 2003.
He will continue to be involved at Stamford Bridge in a senior advisor role.
In a statement, Buck said: “I am proud to have helped Chelsea realize great success on the pitch and make a positive impact in the community.
“Now is the right time to step down and let new ownership build on the strong foundations we have in place.
“The owners have a compelling vision for Chelsea’s future and I look forward to helping them achieve it in this new role alongside our incredible staff, players, coaches and supporters.”
Boehly also paid tribute to Buck, saying: “Bruce has led Chelsea to the highest levels of international and domestic football, while also developing one of the most active social responsibility projects in sport.
“We thank Bruce for his service and his commitment to the club.”
Pep sees Silva’s worth
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes midfielder Bernardo Silva will stay with the club, despite reported interest from Barcelona.
The Portuguese playmaker has spoken previously about his desire to play in LaLiga, but his Catalan boss does not expect a transfer this summer.
Guardiola, 51, said: “I think he will continue with [City]. But I have always said I don’t want players that don’t want to be with us.
“But Bernardo is important and I think he will stay. As a club, the aim is for him to stay.”
The Citizens coach was speaking at the announcement of a friendly between Barca and City set to take place on August 24.
The clash will raise money for the ALS charity and sees the Premier League champions face a club with which Guardiola enjoyed so much success, both as a player and coach.
Guardiola added: “We want to thank Barca for inviting us here and setting such a great stage such as the Camp Nou.
“We’re going to try and fill it with as many people as we can and we’re looking forward to participating.”
