Toffees sweet on Pereira
Vitor Pereira has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Rafa Benitez in the Everton hotseat — but Frank Lampard is still in the running.
The Toffees are expected to make an announcement within the next 48 hours after axing Benitez last week.
And former Porto boss Pereira, 53, is reportedly in pole position having impressed the Goodison Park hierarchy following an initial chat with club owner Farhad Moshiri.
But Lampard, who has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in January 2021, is still being considered for the vacancy.
Toon give up on Jesse
Newcastle are believed to have given up hope of signing Jesse Lingard on loan from Manchester United.
Struggling Toon were willing to pay a fee and the attacking midfielder’s wages in full — but the Premier League clubs have been able to strike a deal.
And while Lingard is keen to find regular football before becoming a free agent in the summer, he is now not expected to strut his stuff at St James’ Park.
The England man, 29, enjoyed an impressive loan spell with West Ham last season and has no intention of extending his stay at Old Trafford.
Alfredo wants More with Rangers
Alfredo Morelos insists he is happy with life at Rangers.
The striker, 25, has regularly been linked with a move away from Ibrox after impressing since joining the Scottish club from HJK Helsinki in 2017.
But the Colombian and his family are settled in Glasgow and Morelos wants to taste more success with the Gers.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “I’m very happy at Rangers. I was named Player of the Month in December, I’ve been scoring goals and I feel good physically.
“I’m just thinking about scoring more goals and God will decide what happens in the future.
“I’ll keep working hard and fighting. I’m also in the Colombia squad now.
“I feel very happy in Glasgow, as do my family. My daughter is really settled here, I feel very pleased. Rangers really welcomed me when I joined, as did the fans, so I feel really happy here.”
