New Spurs signing Richarlison handed ban
New Tottenham signing Richarlison has been handed a one-match ban and £25,000 fine by the FA for his flare-throwing incident at Everton last season.
The Brazilian joined Spurs for an initial £50million last week but his debut will now be delayed due to the suspension.
The incident occurred during the Toffees’ crucial 1-0 win over Chelsea in May when the 25-year-old, who had just scored for his side, threw a flare that had landed on the Goodison Park pitch back into the stands.
The forward will therefore miss his new team’s Premier League opener against Southampton, with an away trip to London rivals Chelsea the first chance for him to make his top-flight bow for Antonio Conte’s outfit.
Villa and Fulham bolster youth ranks
Aston Villa and Fulham have announced the signings of Rory Wilson and Kristian Sekularac respectively, with both heading straight into their new clubs’ academy set-ups.
Striker Wilson, 16, joins the Villans from Steven Gerrard’s former side Rangers after an eye-catching youth campaign which saw him net a whopping 49 goals for club and country.
Academy manager Mark Harrison said: “We are delighted that Rory has joined us having had a number of clubs interested in signing him.
“He is a goalscorer with a lot of potential, having also represented Scotland at international youth level.
“He has a real good thirst and mentality to want to improve and we really look forward to seeing how he develops with us and hopefully, in years to come, play for our first team.”
Swiss midfielder Sekulac has joined the newly-promoted Cottagers from Juventus, with the 18-year-old also scoring two goals in six international Under-19s appearances.
Sekulac said after signing: “I’m feeling great and I’m super excited to join this club. I’ve admired Fulham for a very long time and I can’t wait to crack on and start playing games.
“I’ve met most of the lads and they seem like a really great group. They’ve been really welcoming. I’ve also met pretty much all the staff so I can’t complain.
“The fans can expect a creative player who likes to put on a show. I can play anywhere in midfield and I’m a technical player.”
Big Dunc leaves Toffees
Duncan Ferguson has left his role as Everton’s assistant to pursue his own managerial ambitions.
The 50-year-old former Toffees striker has had two spells as caretaker boss in December 2019 and January of this year after joining the first-team coaching staff in 2014.
The Scot had two spells as a player at Goodison Park, scoring 62 goals in 239 top-flight appearances overall.
Ferguson said: “Being a caretaker manager has given me confidence to step into management. The club has been fantastic with me. They’ve supported me all the way through my journey.
“It was difficult last season but this club is definitely heading in the right direction. It’s a fantastic club.
“The team is in good hands with Frank as manager. He’s been first class and he wanted me to stay on.”
Nuno seals management return
Nuno Espirito Santo is back in management after being unveiled as the new head coach of Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad.
The 48-year-old has been out of work since being sacked by Tottenham last November after just 17 games in charge.
In a brief message on the club’s social media, the former Wolves boss said: “It’s an honour for me to join the greatest club in Saudi Arabia, Ittihad. See you soon.”
