Forest land Williams from Reds
Neco Williams hopes to help newly-promoted Nottingham Forest continue their exciting rise after the right-back joined from Liverpool.
Williams, 21, has signed a four-year deal at the City Ground, ending his 15-year association with the Anfield club.
The Wales international impressed on loan at Fulham in the Championship last term and will now look ahead to his first season in the top flight as a regular starter.
He said: “I’m really excited to join Nottingham Forest and to help this great club move forwards in the Premier League.
“Forest are a club with incredible history and the City Ground is a very special venue that I can’t wait to experience in full voice in the coming weeks.
“Having spoken to the head coach, there’s a huge amount of ambition being shown at the club and I can’t wait to join up with my new team-mates and get ready for the challenge ahead.”
The East Midlands outfit have also strengthened in the left-back position, with Omar Richards joining from Bayern Munich yesterday.
Having also signed a four-year deal, the former Reading ace said: “I’m thrilled to return to England by joining Nottingham Forest at such an exciting time.
“The club has enjoyed an incredible last few months and there are great ambitions for the Premier League return.”
Terry reveals management snubs
Former Chelsea and England captain John Terry has revealed he turned down three management roles and was rejected by a further two clubs last year.
The 41-year-old left his role as Aston Villa assistant in July 2021 in order to take his first steps as a first-team boss, but his wait to secure a job continues.
The ex-defender has since taken up a consultancy role at the Blues and suggested he is open to accepting the right offer if it comes along.
He said on social media: “[I’m] getting lots of messages regarding me not managing.
“I turned down three jobs last year and interviewed for two more which I didn’t get. It’s a personal decision that I have to come to.
“I have my role at Chelsea that I love and my family time, which means everything to me. And I get time to enjoy myself.”
Wiegman: There’s pressure on Norway too
England boss Sarina Wiegman has played down suggestions by Norway boss Martin Sjogren that all the pressure is on the Lionesses ahead of tonight’s Women’s Euro 2022 clash.
Sjogren said in his pre-match press conference that his side were “definitely” the underdogs at the Amex tonight, adding: “I think England is one of the big favourites for the tournament. I think England feels quite a lot of pressure from being at home.”
But the Lionesses boss was quick to dispute those claims, responding: “I think Norway has to win too, to be top of the group. We want to win. It’s easy to say that the pressure is on.
“We know what we want — we want to play our best game, to entertain, and of course to win games.
“If they want to be the underdog, that’s fine. I think they have a very strong squad, and we do too, so I expect an open match and we’ll see where it goes.”
Bright embracing Hegerberg challenge
Tonight’s Group A meeting will see England come up against one of the finest forwards in women’s football in Norway’s Ada Hegerberg.
The former Ballon d’Or winner made a lively return to international tournament football against Northern Ireland, grabbing an assist in her side’s 4-1 victory.
On the prospect of facing the Lyon star, England defender Millie Bright said: “She’s a top player, everyone is aware of her strengths and how she plays but it’s just another opponent to take care of and defend against.
“As defenders, we love that challenge and it’s something that we thrive off. You want to be challenged.
“We’re prepared for what we’re going to face and we’re ready to put our stamp on the game as well.”
