Valuable Sterling
Mason Mount says Raheem Sterling is fitting in perfectly at Chelsea.
The Blues snapped up the Manchester City star for £47.5million earlier this month after boss Thomas Tuchel identified him as one of his top targets.
And Mount, 23, has been impressed with how his England team-mate has hit the ground running.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: “He’s a winner, I’ve said that before.
“Every time you train with him that will to win — if you play a little game of five-a-side or it’s a 10 vs 10 — he’s there and he wants to score. That’s just who he is. He’s fitted in so perfectly with the group.
“I know him so well so I knew he’d buy in straight away and he’s done that. He’s looked very good and it’s obviously exciting for us to have him here and see what we can achieve in the future.
“For both parties I think it’s going to work brilliantly. It’s on the right foot straight away. We are very excited for him to be here.
“There’s a good mix of us here, so I feel we are on the right track.”
Shift in approach
Swansea players will no longer take a knee before matches this season.
A statement from the Championship club said: “Following discussions as a group, we have collectively decided to no longer take the knee prior to fixtures during the 2022-23 season.
“We have taken the knee before every game since football resumed in June 2020, following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
“This is not a decision that has been taken lightly and in no way reflects any diminishing of our belief that discrimination of any nature is abhorrent and has no place in football or society.
“We remain firmly in support of what taking the knee stands for and represents.
“Taking the knee has undoubtedly helped to raise awareness and encourage conversations about how to remove racism from the game we all love.
“Should any opposition side take the knee before a game this season, we will line-up and applaud them, because we absolutely support the sentiment behind it. “
“But we feel we want to take responsibility as a group and find alternative ways to show our commitment to inclusion and diversity. We want to work to be a force for positive, substantive change.”
