Clarets sign Weghorst
Burnley have snapped up Netherlands striker Wout Weghorst from Wolfsburg for an undisclosed fee.
The 6ft 6in hitman, 29, has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at Turf Moor and will be in line to face Watford when the Clarets return to Premier League action on Saturday night.
Delighted Burnley boss Sean Dyche said: “Wout is a player our scouts have been strong on for some time and we feel he can add to all that we do at Burnley.
“His signing is a continued show of the club’s and team’s development. We wish Wout well as he earns the right to push our group forwards.”
Burnley’s new No9, capped 12 times by his country, netted 59 goals in 118 Bundesliga appearances for Wolfsburg.
Eriksen is back in business
Christian Eriksen cannot wait to get cracking with Brentford.
The attacking midfielder, 29, has joined Thomas Frank’s Bees until the end of the season after being released by Inter Milan last month.
He has not made a senior appearance since suffering a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020 last June.
But Eriksen is raring to go again after making a full recovery. He said: “I’m happy to announce that I’ve signed for Brentford.
“I can’t wait to get started and hopefully I’ll see you all very soon.”
Tuchel eyes Club World Cup
Thomas Tuchel insists Chelsea will go all out to win the Club World Cup.
The Blues head to Abu Dhabi next month hoping to become just the third English side — after Manchester United and Liverpool — to win the competition.
And Tuchel is keen to see his European champions fly the flag for the Premier League.
He said: “It is a big opportunity to win an extraordinary trophy. That is why we will do anything to take the chance to make it happen.”
Before Chelsea turn their attention to the Club World Cup, they host Plymouth in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.
