Talk of the Toon
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has distanced himself from speculation suggesting he could replace England manager Gareth Southgate after the World Cup.
Howe, 44, has emerged as the favourite to take over from Southgate in the wake of a disappointing Nations League campaign.
But he is fully focused on the job at hand at St James’ Park.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s home game with Fulham, the former Bournemouth supremo said: “I never say never. But in the short term, it is not on my radar at all.
“It is all Newcastle and trying to make this team better.
“I have always said I love the day-to-day coaching, love being with the players on the training ground.
“With international football, you get that taken away for long periods. At this moment in my life that is not something I want to do.”
Boost for Rashford
Manchester United ace Marcus Rashford has been named Premier League Player of the Month for September.
Rashford, 24, was a key figure in United’s wins over Leicester and Arsenal earlier this month, with two of the three goals he has netted so far this season coming in the 3-1 success against the Gunners.
After picking up the award, he said: “It’s a good feeling. We didn’t start the season so strongly so to get four wins on the bounce is really good.
“It’s still fairly new with the manager and we’ve got much better at doing the things he wants us to.
“But there are still a lot of steps to take and we’re all looking forward to doing that together.”
Erik ten Hag’s men will look to make it five league wins on the bounce when they head to arch-rivals Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
All change
Hull have parted company with head coach Shota Arveladze.
Arveladze was appointed in January and helped guide the Tigers to Championship safety last term.
But with the side sitting 20th in the table this season, Andy Dawson has been made interim head coach until a permanent appointment is made.
Hull chairman Acun Ilicali said: “During the international break, we had a number of meetings with Shota to discuss the direction of the team and the future of the club.
“As these meetings went on, it became clear our views weren’t aligned so we have made the decision to part ways.
“Our focus is now supporting Andy and the squad and finding the best possible candidate to drive this club forward.”
