Jota injury concerns Klopp
Liverpool are sweating over the ankle injury Diogo Jota picked up at Inter Milan last night.
Jota, 25, who has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season, was replaced by Roberto Firmino at half-time as the Reds secured a 2-0 win In Italy.
And while that first-leg victory puts the Merseysiders in pole position to progress to the Champions League quarter-finals, boss Jurgen Klopp faces an anxious wait for news.
He said: “I’m really happy with everything, apart from that Diogo had to go off with something around the ankle ligament. We will see, we don’t know exactly.
“He could have played on, maybe that’s a good sign, but at half-time, the ankle was swollen anyway so we knew we had to change.”
Gers ready for Dortmund
Giovanni van Bronckhorst insists Rangers are relishing their Europa League showdown with Borussia Dortmund — despite being underdogs.
The Scottish champs face the tournament favourites in the first leg of their knockout round play-off at the Westfalenstadion tonight.
And Van Bronckhorst, 47, is adamant his players will embrace the daunting task at hand.
He said: “We want to play against the best opposition possible in all the competitions we have, so it’s normal to live the moments we are facing now.
“These are the games you want. From when you are young, you work hard to be able to play these games. Everyone is excited.
“We’re playing against one of the top sides in Europe. You know when you are still in Europe after the winter break you are going to play against very good opposition.
“We are relishing the challenge to play against a top side in a nice stadium. We will go out and try to make it to the next round.”
After being ruled out tonight, Dortmund’s star striker Erling Haaland is battling to be fit for the second leg at Ibrox next Thursday.
Auba is ready
Xavi has confirmed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is ready to play his part in Barcelona’s Europa League clash with Napoli this evening.
The former Arsenal captain, 32, has made just two appearances from the bench since leaving the Emirates on a free last month.
But Xavi insists the Gabon forward is raring to go — despite not starting a game since December 2.
Speaking ahead of the first leg of the Europa League knockout round play-off at the Camp Nou, the Barca boss said: “Aubameyang is good and he trains really well.
“He’s a player who can make a difference, he works well in spaces and makes good runs into the area.
“He’s put in performances in recent years that have been very good. I’m very happy with him, he’s working positively in our group and he’s very professional.”
